How Indictments are Received: An Observation
I got to thinking about all of this yesterday and something occurred to me...

One of the complaints we have had about people in the red states is that they are (in some part) ill-informed about the issues. They spout the RW talking points almost as a mantra...(for those that remember...it reminds me of the old SNL skit: "I loved it, it was better than Cats, I'm going to see it again and again"..."I loved it, it was better than Cats, I'm going to see it again and again"..."I loved it, it was better than Cats, I'm going to see it again and again"...)

But I digress...

We here at the DU (and for most who post at political sites) are not your typical consumer of news and information. For the most part, we are fixed to the Internet(s) and cable news trying to garner any morsel of information that we can add to our individual and collective knowledge. Most (especially in the red states) are not interested in educating themselves on the issues. They see "bumper sticker" headlines and sound bite statements by the talking heads and along with the RW talking points, form their opinion.

My point is this...
They are not going to be any more interested in educating themselves on the Libby indictments then they have been for anything else. The result: This is going to be extremely damaging to Bush and his administration. A recent poll backs this up with nearly 80% saying that the Libby indictment is a "very serious matter."

The good news is that even if they were to educate themselves on this particular issue, they wouldn't find any comfort there either. There is no good news that can result from these indictments. The typical voter in a red state will find it hard to spin anything out of this but "bad news" for the President.

Yawn...

3. I live in a red state
and all of my coworkers, including my boss, get their news in sound bites in between sports programs and country music. Yet all of them have 'awakened' as it were, after Katrina. You see, we have Katrina survivors living in our area. Even had a front page article about them in the local paper-and the boss, at least, reads the local paper. That whole mess woke up quite a lot of people-that and the fact that they realize Bush isn't for the little guy. I think they'll see the indictments as just another example of how Bush has screwed up. My boss was ready to tar and feather him before-it will be interesting to see what he says on Monday morning when he comes to work (I only see my coworkers in the morning when I send them off on their schedules).

4. You're Right Steely...
If I could use a baseball analogy...

You have men on 1st and 3rd, their are 2 outs. You best pitcher is on the mound and you're running out of innings. It begins to rain, and the fans are restless. The player on first base has a slightly pulled hamstring but has been using performance enhancing drugs. The man on third is seeing the coach's wife on the side and knows that if he steals home and fails, it will be the end of his career. The count is 3 balls and two strikes. The pitcher looks in to the catcher. The catcher gives him several signs that he shakes off. The catcher runs out of signs. To make matters worse, some fan has leaped to his death from the nose-bleed seats...

Can you see the analogy?

8. It's definitely a strength
"The good news is that even if they were to educate themselves on this particular issue, they wouldn't find any comfort there either."

Having the truth on our side is always a plus. A lot fewer defectors from our side, a lot more defectors from their side, and ours aren't as likely to go back. Once you've seen that ugly face of the truth, it gets easier and easier to see the lies.

Unfortunately, for the United States in terms of the rest of the world, they have the truth on their side, when it comes to what the US has done, and why. That's the bad part. That's what these ninnys don't realize, how this admin has weakened us and left us unable to defend ourselves, unable to defend ourselves ethically.
