Lawrence O'Donnell on Countdown: GOOD!!
On Keith Olbermann's show, Lawrence O'Donnell just pointed out part of the witness list for Scooty-boot's trial:

1. Dick Cheney.
2. Karl Rove.
3. Ari Fleischer.

Also, O'Donnell said, "Every day, from now on, that Karl Rove goes to work at the White House, is a problem for the Bush administration."

Finally, may I just say, HALLELUJAH!!!

The Nuns were always saying that Satan walked among us but if confronted with holy objects, he would instantly dematerialize into
a puff of smoke, that's one way of solving the leak case.

3. Said this is a HORRIBLE development for this administration.
I can't imagine that Libby will ever be tried -- too much risk for the witnesses (Cheney, Rove, Fleischer, et al.) and for the adminstration itself.

4. O'Donnell also said:
that having to testify as a witness in Libby's trial is a very dangerous position for Rove.

He's right.

Lawyers, how do you impeach a witness? By pulling out his former statements. Fitzgerald's got more than FOUR former statements by Rove.

It is virtually impossible for even an HONEST person to tell the same story the same way twice. Therefore, if you have even one prior statement of a witness, you can compare it to his testimony and almost always find some inconsistency. This is standard lawyering stuff.

Karl will either: 1)testify and tell the truth, in which case he might still be made to look like a liar by an energetic DEFENSE attorney or prosecutor; 2) testify and tell a lie, in which case Karl goes down for perjury; 3) take the 5th, in which case everyone in America thinks Karl is hiding something REALLY BAD (which of course he would be).

Libby does not want to be a convicted felon. If Libby pleads guilty, he gets lots less of a crack at an appeal than if he is found guilty by a jury. Also, with a guilty plea, it will be much harder for Junior to pardon Libby on Junior's way out of the White House. Libby does not want to go to jail. I mean, for chrissakes, what would his MOTHER say?? What would his KIDS think??

Even if Libby eventually finagles some kind of deal, it is a long and tortuous road he will have to travel in the meantime. And every long and tortuous day of that will be a happy day for us!

10. No exit- if scoots cops a deal that means he admits a felony
and likely still serve some time and could no longer practice law.

The embarrassment for this admin. is very real.

7. How does the Chimperor get away with it?
It's been reported that he knew that Turd Blossom leaked classified info over two years ago and did nothing about it except lie to cover it up. The law requires that anybody with knowledge of a leak of classified information must take action for the sake of national security.
Why aren't people like O'Donnell making this point? It's evident at this point that Chimpy is a co-conspirator.

Everyone assumes it's a slam-dunk to cop a plea.

Not so says O'Donnell. Fitz won't accept a plea unless Scooter flips and starts squealing like a pig about the whole rotten mess.

story is at variance with Libby's. (And we all know what a reputation for truth Cheney has... snort...)

But I like to see them opposed to each other.

Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 01:36 AM by morningglory
whole day as a cube rat, listening to NPR, hoping for good news, then listened to Fitz' press conf quietly playing under general office noises, copy machine around the corner, people cackling in the hallway, his strong voice and intelligence pierced through it, even though I could not make out the words all the time. I could feel it. Right after work, went to a park on the bay under oak trees to attend a little small-town jazz festival. Good music. Met my husband there and we shared a picnic of those chickenhawk wings and yellowcake that was recommended on this forum the other day. when I got home I was able to watch the press conference on C-Span. Thank God for C-Span. And now I can let all the news roll over me. What a rewarding day. I love my country. At the jazz fest, the opening number was the "Star Spangled Banner", my heart was full of patriotism, I wanted to whoop at the end, not just for the great trumpet-playing, but in protest of the red-state crap that goes on(as if to say "I am also a patriot"), making old people wallow their way up out of rickety lawn chairs to salute the flag I love. Well, at least they didn't break into a prayer meeting. Thank you all. I could not have made it through these 5 stinking years without you.

36. I don't agree! Cheney is part of what proves that Scooty-boot
did not (contrary to Scooty-boot's testimony) originally "learn of Plame's name/status from reporters".

Therefore, Cheney's testimony is part of the prosecutor's proof that Libby committed perjury in Libby's GJ testimony.

Of course, the defense will be able to call Cheney, too, if they wish.

If you call a witness, you must usually do a direct exam. This means, no leading questions. Then the other side gets to do a cross exam--which allows leading questions (and is therefore easier to do.)

I imagine the defense would prefer to do a cross exam on any witness, rather than a direct exam.

13. I predict no trial for Libby.
I just don't see that pack of hyenas taking the chance. I think Libby will plea bargain to concurrent sentences, 5 years, he'll be required to serve 3 and then 2 years probation. I'm not a lawyer. I'm just trying to read the tea leaves.

Novak is the one who should get nailed to the wall. He is just as guilty as any of them.

25. Even if he coughs up another body
there will need to be evidence to corroborate what he says. If Libby says "X" but Cheney and Rove say "Y," then what can Fitzgerald do?

These people learned from Watergate and Iran-Contra. They did not learn enough to keep from making one stupid mistake. I only hope they made more, and that those mistakes will be uncovered. Fortunately, Patrick Fitzgerald seems to be an extremely patient and methodical prosecutor. It's in his hands, and I hope ultimate justice is on his side.

14. As they say in that old candy bar commercial ---
"...indescribably DELICIOUS!!!"

THANK YOU for this! My husband tapes Olbermann every evening so we can watch it after everybody else goes to bed. Sounds like yet another good show in a continuing series. GAWD I LOVE Keith Olbermann! Thanks for the heads-up.

And btw - I think O'Donnell is correct. kkkarl rove is now a liability. AND he's crippled, as is. It's NOT over for him. He's NOT in the clear. This is STILL hanging like a big, fat, pasty-faced storm cloud over his big, fat, pasty-faced head. They can't just move on, back to business as usual, because he's NOT out of the woods. And thus, the distraction continues!!! He and everyone involved with him are now, officially, charter members of Club LIMBO. He is seriously hobbled by this - by this not knowing, not knowing one way or the other. And so is everyone who's gonna be trying to work, as "normal" with him, from now on. Frankly, I think it would have been easier if he perhaps HAD been indicted, beyond just the obvious reasons. Or been cleared, flat-out, investigation over. Either way, at least he and everyone else would KNOW FOR SURE. They don't have that privilege to enjoy. And they won't for AWHILE.

34. Rove's dirty tricks days are over.
The next time he pulls one, the bloggers will be all over it, and everyone will gang up on him. His credibility, to the extent he ever had any, has been destroyed by associations. We know he has been a liar and cheat for a long time. Now a lot of people besides us think he might be. That is going to either cramp his style or get him into serious trouble. Either way, he is not very useful to the Bush crowd.

26. He'll be pardoned.
C'mon, folks. We're dealing with the most criminal Presidency in the history of our nation. Do you really think that the Vice President is going to take the stand? Under oath?

Hell, no. The President will pardon Libby before that happens. He's going to appoint someone to the Supreme Court during the winter recess, too. If he's smart, he'll do both on the same Friday afternoon and wave a big "fuck you" to all of us.

29. Pardon = end of shrub pResidency.
If the pardon comes before next fall, the rethugs will lose both houses of congress and the Coward will be impeached.

And if the pardon comes after the 06 elections, Libby may talk first.

So the question is, can Libby rot in jail for say 18 months and hope the Coward pardons him after the 08 elections.

Very questionable.
