Maybe in the future we shouldn't pick glib sayings like "Fitzmas."
It really didn't help our cause. It was some dreamed up "advertising promo" that in the end ...let us all down.

Hyping "Fitzmas!" Rove is going down, there may be up to 12 Indictments, Rove is going down...and Fitz is going after Niger Forgeries and all the rest of the "Spin and Crap" we sat here and spent our time on.

In the end...Fitzgerald was a Prosecutor charged with a "Narrow Investigation." He did his job...he wants to get back to Chicago to sleep in his own bed.

Why did we allow ourselves to get SO INVOLVED with the SPIN from both Our Own Left and the RIGHT?

WHY? And, is it good that we did this? Or, do we need to become wiser to spin that "pumps us" along with the spin that "trolls and Freeps" promote to us.

Why can't we learn to be more "MEDIA SAVY?"

If we don't learn we are "doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past."

This must be the 50th thread about how bad "Fitzmas" makes us look etc. Give it a rest. We get your message. Some people object.

45. Folks, Fitzmas has just begun...
The special counsel is getting another grand jury. Scooter's five-fecta is just the beginning.

It's a warning to the most powerful circle of people in America that they could be next...

...and that means YOU, Karl Rove, you treasonous little shit of a turd blossom.

Methinks Rove has weeks, maybe days, to cut a deal with Fitz. Mefurtherthinks Cheney has a great Big Time target painted on his back by Fitzgerald's Untouchables.

And, of course, Ambassador Wilson and his wife are going to sue. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of those depositions. And we all remember what happened when Clinton got deposed, so  stock up on the Jolly Time early!

Keep that Fitzmas spirit in your heart all year 'round... 'cause the fun could last for, say, the remainder of Smirky W. McBunnypants' term!

I expect many more to come.

The Illinois licenses for bribes scandal started with a single indictment against a single official. It ended up with a total of 66 indictents, all of which resulted either in convictions or are still in court. Governor George Ryan of Illinois was the 66th person indicted. This over a period of several years.

The prosecuting attorney on these cases is none other than Patrick Fitzgerald.

On the first day of Fitzmas the Special Counsel gave to me. A scooter.

Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 07:37 PM by Marr
I just watched a WH official get INDICTED. It's already opening up alot of discussion about the administration's claims about Iraq.

Fitzgerald conducted a professional and *fair* investigation. Were people expecting Bush and Cheney to be frogmarched today or something? Because if that's the reason for all the frustration, I'd say the problem is ridiculous fantasy expectations and wishful thinking- not a silly (but fun) phrase like "Fitzmas".

I swear to GOD I've seen more hand-wringing here about something GOOD than I could have ever imagined.

Some of you could be handed a plate of gold bars and you'd complain that it was too heavy.

If you got too emotionally overinvolved in this, who's to blame? Other people? I didn't get emotionally overinvolved. I figure whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen, why worry?

Today was good. A new grand jury being empaneled is even BETTER! Who cares about the Fitzmas term?

We SHOULD NOT have put a "Fitzmas Burden" on his shoulders...and that he "tossed it off" is to be expected. We just "over-reached."

Do you think Scooter will be able to plea bargain? How will this impact the upcoming congressional races? Will Cheney testify under oath?

Some folks will continue to run head first into a brick wall, rather than learn from the experience.

51. Fitzmas was not ad promo. It was Vox Populii
Well unless someone comes forward with a usage of 'Fitzmas' earlier than Oct. 6, I suppose I will be credited as the person who coined the term. On that basis, I'd like to weigh in on the Fitzmas brouhaha.

The term 'Fitzmas' emerged on a whim, to elaborate on a thought suggested in an Oct. 6 thread by Seemslikeadream. That's all it was -- a quickie whim.

But somehow the thing developed legs. On its own. People picked it up and started using it until it became a meme or possibly even an anti-meme. They just seemed to like it and repeat and repeat and repeat it. It developed a life of its own because a lot of people found some level of resonance in it. In this perhaps there is a factor of Cultural Inevitability. Folks are looking for a way to blow off steam about how BushCo and the Republicans have VIOLATED the trust of the voters -- in oh so many ways. Fitzmas, I feel, somehow came to represent the HOPE that the violations would soon be remedied -- a cause for jubilation.

As for me, I don't care too passionately much about the term 'Fitzmas." I found it amusing on one level, but it is not my nature to dwell in the state of Schadefruede -- taking pleasure from the problems of others. I feel that's basically an unhealthy soul state.

What I am interested in -- like most DUers -- is in something far more substantial than a cute word, or a few days of celebration over indictments. Indictments, in my view, will just be the start of a process of profound upheaval in the USA. Out of all of this process I want justice. I want truth. I want my country and my democracy back. That's what is important. That's what I'd like to celebrate: Truthmas or Justicemas or even Democracymas. Bring it on.

"Fitzmas" as a term, or a meme, is likely to recede into the cyber archives of history in a big hurry, maybe as soon as next week. Toodle Oooo. Goodbye.

We have work to do. Justice. Truth. Democracy.

52. Great Post, Spiral Hawk!
I didn't know you had "coined it." And, I'm not dissing you about it. Just that it was picked up and turned into as you said maybe a "meme."

It seemed too effusive. And, I think that Fitz did the best and who knows he might deliver even more. But the "parameters" of what he was given and what he had to deal with were very restricted.

Don't mean to sound like the "Grinch who's dissing Fitzmas," here. I just was "cautioning down."

Thanks for your explanation and as I said...I didn't know you coined it..thought it just erupted on it's own out of the internet.

Wouldn't diss one of my most admired posters on DU... Sorry if you thought I was.
