Questions on the Democratic debate on CNN
I'm watching the replay because I missed the live show.

1. Did John Edwards ever get a chance to say anything? Unless he did when I was moving the lawn sprinkler, the answer is no, during the 40 mins I've been watching. I know from the prior threads that he must have at some point, since many of you said he did well.

Edwards will take on Tweety at 7 PM on Hardball October 13.

2. Jeff Greenfield has repeatedly referred to a poll but I did not catch the name of the pollster. He has made claims that the middle class says Dems do not reflect their values, that the % Dem is at the lowest point ever, etc. No one has thus far challenged him to identify or speak more specifically about this poll; they seem to accept the results. Does anyone here have a link to this poll(s)?

3. Why don't any of the Dems comment on the bias in the media as a reason that it is tough to get their message out or that they have been misperceived? Is it because they fear they will then be hammered in the media?

1. Question the media...? That's the third rail....can't go there.
Forget about being objective or fair. The corp. owned media outlets have their agenda...thier candidates...what will be discussed and what won't....

2. The Speaking Times
Edited on Sun Oct-12-03 09:44 AM by JasonBerry
Somebody posted the exact minutes the candidates were allowed to speak. The only thing I remember was Dean had 14+ minutes, Kucinich only had just over three minutes. I'll try to search for that thread.

3. Whoever did that for the Kucinich campaign was off on the counting.
To say that Dean had the most time was ludicrous. Of course he did not.

5. from what I saw
14+ minutes is right. I didn't see Dean speak near as much as Kucinich.

Judy Woodruff was NOT the right person to moderate this debate. NOt only did she show her bias, she was extremely bitchy.

7. I timed Edwards myself and got same number as Kucinich
(actually, there was a 5 secon difference, which could, entirely, relate to the ambiguity of start/stop time).

Nobody on any of the two or three long threads on this topic has posted that they came up with very different totals, so I'm going to trust the Kucinich numbers.

6. Kucinich had 5 min 9 sec, I believe, which was lowest. Edwrdars second low
-est, with 8 min even.

9. Thanks. I found times posted on CBS site.
It seems to me that the moderator should NOT interrupt any candidates or try to ensure that they answer questions. Just ask the questions and keep everyone to exactly the same amount of time to be fair. It appears that this simple task eluded CNN/Woodruff.
