Some group called "21st Century Democrats"...
just tried to hit me up for a $110 donation. The lady on the phone told me that they tried hard to win the 2004 election, but they came up short, and that they needed my help more than ever.

I told her "no, I don't think the Democratic leadership tried hard enough to win, and no, I won't be giving until they grow some balls."

She hung up on me. LOL

2. Who would want to support a group who.....
Wants things like this. Best not to give them a dime

21st Century Democrats builds the Democratic farm team by electing progressive candidates to all levels of government. We're grassroots leaders—nobody knows field organizing like we do. We work in every corner of the nation, training thousands of activists to make the difference for progressive campaigns. Bottom line: our on the ground, door-to-door support wins elections.

Our Experience:
Founded to give progressive and populist candidates the support they need to win elections, 21st Century Democrats has grown to become one of the largest political action committees in the nation. We combine a commitment to progressive values with extensive grassroots organizing experience, bringing together two critical components of Democratic success.

21st Century Democrats is one of the few political action committees in the nation that contribute highly trained grassroots organizers to progressive candidates and campaigns. Our training program is one of the most effective in the nation, and we continue to develop programs for all levels of involvement. Our trained organizers run sophisticated field plans that rely on targeted voter contact, making the difference in tough races. The results are clear: we win the majority of our campaigns.

We choose tough races—races that other political action committees shy away from because they’re hard to win. We are guided by the core Democratic values that put people first.

Our Values:
• quality public education
• universal healthcare coverage
• fair taxes and responsible social policy
• corporate accountability
• good jobs, living wages and secure pensions
• civil and human rights
• a clean and sustainable environment
• clean elections laws

6. I thought Wellstone and Harkin founded the group.
I still wouldn't give them $110 on a cold call. (Unless I had money to burn, which I don't.)

3. I got that same call yesterday
And told them just about the same. The guy calling didn't hang up on me though. I ended up hanging up on him after telling him to have a nice day.

4. Not sure why she hung up (Unless it was an outsourced telemarketer)
She probably should have agreed with you, according to the 21st Century Democrats description of themselves.

5. My sentiments exactly!
I want the money back that I gave to the 10,000 lawyers who were going to assure that every vote was counted.

9. Well, that just demonstrates your ignorance about the political process,
The 21st Century Dems has nothing to do with the Democratic leadership. They're a progressive group which does a lot of grassroots training for frontline activists. I know, because I am a member and I have attended their training, which is very good.

Broad brush much?

13. kneejerk comes back to bite?
Not wanting to get out the brush, but maybe the anti-Dem snark emitted by some groups has come back to bite the same groups. Would be ironical.

10. Good group. Here is their website.
I know that DFA partnered with them last year. You can navigate their site and find who they backed the last couple of years. Most I really like, a couple I don't. But that is often the case.

Another good group is Progressive Majority.

11. This is kind of sad to see this at a Democratic forum.
Even sadder is that I am put down a lot of times for advocating FOR the Democratic Party. Go figure.

14. I think if one can't donate, it is ok. Just don't gloat about no support.
One of our DFAers here in Florida got a call from the DCCC or DSCC, can't remember which. She said she was donating to the DNC because of Dean's chairmanship, trying to change things.

She did say that she was not happy about so many anti-choice candidates being chosen. Then she got blasted by the telemarketer for being so picky.

She was right to have her say. I don't disagree with that at all, but to come here and post about not giving and withholding support is getting out of control. There are several posts every day now.
