Hey! What happened to the "support our troops" mantra of the right??
Now that the glamorous "shock and awe" and stormin' G.I. Joe phases of the Bush War have been played out on the telly for all of our "patriotic" Joe and Joanne Six-Packs, these same self righteous folks don't seem to give a flying fuck that our American troops have been left out in a 130 degree sea of hostility - sitting ducks who might as well be wearing red, white and blue bulls-eyes painted on their very vunerable backs - stranded in the middle of a nightmarish urban jungle combat more frightening than any Americans have faced since the Second World War, their services cruelly extended at the same time they have just learned that their reasons for being sent to war were based on a complete, wholesale fraud perpetrated against both the government and the people of the United States - needlessly and shamelessly employed as Dick Cheney's personal security force to secure and protect his company's future interests - their deaths mounting every single day. Where is the outrage, the compassion, the "patriotism?" "Support our troops" - just another slogan destined for the junk heap of corporate fed disposable American slogans. This year's "Where's the beef" "Be like Mike" "Just do it"!!!

Go ahead - mount another little raggedy Chinese made American flag on the front of your SUV! Plant another UNITED WE STAND bumper sticker on the back of your families' second SUV!! Tell your co-workers that you support your pResident (no matter what the fuck he does, one can only suppose); but as far as you declaring how you...

"Support our troops"

THAT IS UTTER BULLSHIT!! - every bit as big a lie as your leader's measly 16 word statement! (the one that's destined for tomorrow's history books!!)

So, its still a free country (somewhat) and you may say what you like...but..."You...

"Support our troops" - NOT!!!

2. Soldiers fill the same roll as unborn babies
They want them around until they start speaking up and then they have no use for them anymore.

I would provide a link but that is a bit of a pain today

See my A Big Letdown in LBN (the Freepers are foaming at the mouth about this)

SFC on BBC"These guys are emotionally and physically exhausted....some of them have talke dabout getting hurt so they can go home.....I've heard some say 'Just shoot me so I can go home' ".

On ABC WNT they had a table of GI's and when asked what they would say to Rummy if he was there:

One said, ~"You can't put what I would say on TV"

Another said, "I'd ask for this resignation"

Sgt from 3d ID "I'v egot my own 'Most Wanted' list' he named Bremer,Wolfowitz,Bush, and Rummy.

21. Great analysis!
FReepers only care about life if it suits their purposes. If your life doesn't help them in achieving their goals than your worth shit in their minds!

3. The difference:
THEY only "supported our troops" when things seemed to be going GREAT for us.

I'm supporting our troops NOW, when their world is caving in on them from all sides--and all they hear from their commanders in the Pentagon and the White house is "stay there indefinitely", "Will more of them be killed? You bet!", and "bring 'em (Iraqi attacks on them) on!"

I guess it's really going to hurt Dub for the Defense Dept. to have to send out absentee ballots to these guys wherever they are in the fall of 2004, given what the results might well be. BUT...no problem; I'm sure they've got Rep. Katherine Harris working on a fool-proof way to have them "discarded" as we speak!:eyes:

B-)

4. well, the worms are turning...
My freeper cousin and his freeper wife just left after a 5-day visit, and since their oldest son is serving in the Gulf I wondered just how deeply you'd have to scratch to find any resentment against the coward-in-chief for putting their son in harm's way.

Of course, they both hate the Clintons ("I think they're guilty of murdering Vince Foster") and Gore ("Do you know that a copy of Gore's book was found in the Unibomber's cabin?"). I listened to their hateful spews against Democrats for a while and idly asked if they believed that WMD will be found. No, they said. I asked if the Iraqi people seem at all grateful for their new 'freedoms'. No, they said. Why do you think we invaded Iraq? I asked. "For the oil." they said. Do you think it's okay for your son to die for oil? I asked. Silence.

It seems these uber-patriots are now demanding that ALL troops be brought home, and for someone else to clean up our mess, like NATO or the UN (the same UN they hate! Ain't that a joke!). They seem to think that after all of the mayhem and destruction, we should just declare victory a la Bush and go home, even though we know that the corporate interests will never allow that to happen.

But the oddest thing was how they discussed Bush. Very uncomfortable, very unsure, not AT ALL defending him. At one point the freeper wife said, "I don't want to compare Bush to Hitler, but..." and her voice trailed off she just shrugged. I had made no analogy to Hitler prior to this, in fact I said very little as I was more interested in where they stood from a RW point of view.

It's sad, really. These two aren't very educated, they don't read, they listen to Rush 24/7, they believed the lies and they know they've been betrayed. I sense that * is very, very vulnerable in '04.

12. I've noticed the same thing
Various friends and family members who just two weeks ago wanted to place W on Mt. Rushmore, now seem uncomfortable whenever his name comes up. They not only can't defend him, but it seems they do to not want to defend him.

The added bonus is they listen to Rush or Bill O' try and defend him and they get more turned off. These people are Bush's base and they are not happy with him. They will never vote for a Democrat but they might sit this election out. After all, having a Democrat in the White House is a lot more fun for them because it makes it much easier to foam at the mouth. Who can you blame when your party controls every branch of the government. I guess they can still reach back to the horrible Clinton years when we had peace and prosperity.

19. yes, it's starting to sink in (finally)
I'll mention that when they concluded that we'd invaded Iraq for the oil they weren't happy about it - it's just the only conclusion left to draw, since all of the other 'justifications' appear empty.

I'll also say that spending 5 days with freepers is one of the most mind-numbing, nasty-ass things in the world.

For example, not long after the conversation about Bush and Iraq, my cousin started telling me a horrifying story about moving from his house in the California Sierras. They weren't able to take their two dogs, so he took them both out to a field and shot the first dogs head off with a shotgun. The second dog trotted over, sniffed the carcass, looked at my cousin, and then closed his eyes. His head was blown off next. "It bothered me for a couple of months," said my cousin. "I kept seeing Jack close his eyes."

I almost threw up. I wanted to call the cops on him.

And THAT was on the first day of their visit.

Why the hell didn't they just put the poor dogs to sleep. Or try and give them to someone else??? Jesus!

There is no way in hell I could put up with relatives like that in my own house.

I wanted to kick them out after hearing the dog atrocity story, but the last thing I wanted was an ugly confrontation with a gun-loving freeper. The guy has always freaked me out a little (and I didn't invite them - they dropped by enroute to Oklahoma, and stayed 5 days).

I DID ask why he didn't take the dogs to the pound, or humanely put them to sleep, or at the very damn least not do it together and subject the second dog to that agony. He just shrugged (although he did claim it was 'too expensive' to take them to the vet and have them put to sleep).

with the slogan "Support our Troops - Defenders of our freedom"
Some folks were passing them out at the beginning of this whole mess.
I support our troops, but they aren't in Iraq defending our freedom, they are there ducking pot shots for Rummy's War. How do we get them out?

Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 04:16 PM by GumboYaYa
I contacted my local human rights organizations to discuss organizing a rally in the near future. The idea of an anti-war rally while troops are dying and will continue to do so, however, seems like it may create as much negative backlash as psoitive.

Now, the idea of an anti-war rally is morphing iinto a "Support Our Troops/Impeach Bush" rally.

You could have postcards to mail to Congress advocating reinstalling veterans benefits cut by Bush and supporting the Byrd Amendment proposed yesterday. You could have a table for donating toys, clothes, etc. to families of the troops. You could have a petition to impeach Bush. Any other ideas?

It would be a real slap in the face to the Repukes if we started positioning ourselves as the real supporters for the troops.

15. Well
Of course this is all really the troops fault!! Don't you remember when the chimp went on TV and said we have to give the inspectors more time...use diplomacy instead of guns...this is serious and people may die.
But those nasty old troops, and chickenhawks in groups of as many as five or six on freeper message boards were calling the chimp a wimp and demanded to be sent immediately to Iraq to kill Saddam.

Don't blame the poor resident for giving in to all this pressure. He just did what was asked of him against his will. Now those rotten soldiers are complaining after begging to be sent there?? It's their fault for being there.

20. Caller on ABC affiliate radio shows Chicago's WLS Today told
crazy talk show host filler innner Terri O'Brien that he didn't want to be negative but his son was writing them because they were only getting two bottles of water a day--when they need four, they're not getting mail and there aren't enough people there for defense.

Idiot host told caller to thank his son for his sacrifice and to go to her website, which nobody knows about, where people can sign up to send care packages.

Okaayyyy. I guess that fucking lets Rumsfeld off the hook.
