1. I thought about buying a Hyundai Sante Fe
but couldn't bring myself to choose it over the Honda CR-V. I've heard that Hyundai is improving the quality of its automobiles, but I'll likely never buy one.

2. we have a 2003 and have had no problems...
it was affordable (bought it new), has that sweet warranty and gets decent mileage (we have the 4-cycliner automatic). The radio/sound system isn't great and it's not as quiet as some cars (we have the sunroof, which has to be closed tightly or you get air noises at high speed. But overall, very pleased. It's my wife's car and she drives it every day and it has been on many long trips. Very comfortable for 4 or 5.

3. I rented one recently
So I just had it for a week, but it was really nice.

I know they come with good warranties and their ratings have really shot up since they began. My impression is that they are good cars now.

4. Bought a new 2003 Sonata ...
... in the fall of 2003.

They have a great warranty ... have had to have MAJOR warranty work done 4 times and minor work done thrice in the first 18 months.

At 8,000 the clutch needed to be replaced ...the dealership initially tried to insist that I didn't know how to properly drive a "stick" ... which was quite a surprise to me as I am 43, and with few exceptions, have driven a car with a manual transmission since I was 16 and do not have a history of "burning" out clutches. they did replace it, with out charge.

While driving on the freeway my power steering pump "burned up" ... I defied the dealership to tell me I didn't know how to turn properly :sarcasm: Again, they repaired the car w/out charge.

The next two "major" incidents aren't as easy for me to describe ... one had to do with engine mounts (?) and the other was an hydraulic problem with my clutch ... again these repairs were covered under warranty.\

In the end my problems were resolved each time, to my satisfaction ... however, I find it VERY unsettling for my car to break down ... frankly my car has broken down on the freeway and I have found those experiences to be terrifying.

5. Have a 2004 Sonata bought a year and a half ago...
Doing fine for me. Might want to consider the windshield insurance though, as I already got two cracks in the windshield from rocks hitting it. I had them fixed, but one of them still isn't completely "gone".

6. Personally,
I'd pile my cash up neatly and set it on fire first.

I bought one for LeftyDad when LK was an infant. That peice of shit was a bigger headache then the colicy infant.

7. Can't say much about the newer ones

But a few years back I worked at an auto auction and we usually always had problems with them. Like I said though, that was a few years back and maybe they've improved.

I'd suggest doing a google search for reviews.

Still like the day I bought it.

9. We have a 2004 and are very happy with it.
It's a 4 cyl automatic and gets good gas mileage. My husband drives it to work daily and it also rides nice for long trips.

10. Check out Consumer Reports. It seems to me they ranked it the top mid-
sized car, ahead of the Camry and Accord.

I like the styling on the pre-2006 models. They look like little Lexuses (sp?)
