The Times said the payments to DeLay's wife, Christine DeLay, and his only child, Dani DeLay Ferro, were described in the disclosure forms as "fund-raising fees," "campaign management" or "payroll," with no additional details about how they earned the money.

Oh, and don't bother asking what would have happened if Hillary, Tipper Gore or Gephart's wife were doing this. New rules apply here. If it wasn't ethical Tom wouldn't do it, would he?
================================================
From Star-Telegram
WASHINGTON - When Houston-based Enron needed help in Congress, it often turned to a powerful friend in its own back yard - Rep. Tom DeLay, a free-market conservative from the Houston suburbs and the third-highest ranking member of the Republican-controlled House.

DeLay and a cadre of close political advisers operated at the center of an Enron-backed crusade for energy deregulation in the late 1990s. A former top aide to DeLay worked as an Enron lobbyist, and only three other House members received more campaign contributions from the company.

--snip--
DeLay's financial reports also show that his wife, Christine DeLay, receives a salary from the Alexander Strategy Group. Roy, however, explained that her net annual pay of about $40,000 a year is for her job as chief executive officer of Americans for a Republican Majority, a political action committee whose chairman is her husband.

DeLay's wife is paid through the Alexander Strategy Group primarily as a bookkeeping arrangement, Roy said. She does not keep an office at the firm and often works out of the couple's home, he said. The lobbying firm works for Americans for a Republican Majority as a consultant and received more than $200,000 since July 2000, according to the committee's financial reports.

Christine DeLay's salary was paid by money from the political action committee, Roy said.

1. As Gore Vidal says
Edited on Sun Oct-23-05 10:08 PM by zidzi
"here delay gone tomorrow".

": We now see that House majority leader Tom DeLay has been indicted. The Senate majority leader, Bill Frist, is under investigation by the SEC. We've seen the debacle around Michael "Brownie" Brown and FEMA. Is this Administration finally collapsing under its own weight?

A: "Under its own lack of weight" , I think, is the phrase you are searching for.

Q: Sort of the unbearable lightness?

A: Yes, the unbearable lightness. Or here DeLay--gone tomorrow. Yes, I do believe it is breaking up. And the indictment of DeLay would not have happened had there not been two hurricanes, which dramatized to everybody in the United States that we don't have a government. And to the extent we do have one it is not only corrupt but a menace to other countries, to our liberties, to our Bill of Rights."
