LCD flatscreen TVs--when will prices come down?
I read somewhere they're supposed to get cheaper by Christmas. True? Not true? Gonna need one to watch the Rove/Libby trials.

1. Better question...
When will the picture quality improve on them?

4. Picture quality
looked pretty good on the up-market sets I saw at Best Buy yesterday: Toshiba, Sony and especially the Sharp Aquos--all HD sets. Seemed roughly equivalent to the big-ass plasma sets across the aisle.

7. Most of the ones I have seen haven't been great
But I haven't looked at them in a while. Who can afford that much money for a TV?

13. Who can afford that much money for a TV? Oh,
I don't know, people who've never set foot inside a McDonalds or an Olive Garden. People who maintain an exclusively organic diet. People who feel that Absolut vodka is inferior, and only take Grey Goose, thank you very much. (Is Grey Goose Vodka organic?) Your basic "Merlot Democrats." You know, "the base" - like the Good Doctor said.

(Sorry! Sorry! Must ... try ... to restrain self)

Pioneer looked really good at Best Buy. I think it was Pioneer. It was two brands that started with P.

Anyway, my husband said he heard that early next year the expensive stuff will be much cheaper.

3. They're already coming down in price.
Saw them in the local (whispers: wal-mart) and Best Buy stores. Some 15" screens are around $300.

5. I picked up a 20" from Tiger Direct
for $300. Good picture, Only thing I have noticed is Red tends to bleed a little on some channels, but not all.

The prices are coming down, and you got to love the electrical savings, all the lightbulbs in my house were replaced with low wattage Florescent bulbs long ago. Now, if I can just convince my spouse that the Thermostat can read something other than 72 without being broken. :hide:

6. Put off purchase as long as you can.
The longer you can wait, the cheaper they'll be. April of 2009 is the hard date for all signals to be digital. Most sets of any sort should be very reasonable by then. They can all go to hell if they think I'm taking out a mortgage for their goddamn thirty-five hundred dollar boob tubes!

12. Great minds think alike
You and my wife, I mean. And of course anything more than $500-600 dollars for a TV really is crazy. But will the good ones ever get that cheap? I doubt it.

I have already heard announcements of planned reductions for the shopping season. I just hope the consumers actually follow through and make the purchase.

Of course I also have a long position in Corning who is the largest supplier of glass for those products. *LOL Naturally I want to see "HUGH" sales this season. So maybe you should not listen to me. *grin
