Military enjoying access to students
http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/news/editorial/12977908.htm

As president of Fort Wayne Peace Action’s executive board, David Lambert’s skepticism toward military recruiting would appear to be shaped by his anti-war views.

But David Lambert is a grandfather, too – of a former military recruit who is now a recruiter.

When Lambert joins other peace activists handing informational leaflets to students outside South Side High School, he’s motivated as much by family experience as by his opposition to the war in Iraq.

“He was conned by a recruiter at East Allen County Schools,” Lambert said of his grandson. “He didn’t know he could get out once he had signed up.” snip

Parents ought to ask why David Lambert and Fort Wayne Peace Action aren’t permitted to stand on school property when military recruiters are welcomed with open arms.

1. so true-good point
I can't beleive how some folks were upset by that wondrful sophmeore kid who put the great ad in his school's newspaper. I think this printed out would make a nice flyer BTW perhaps with some additional info under it- say about NOv. 2nd www.worldcantwait.org etc. I was also so pleased to hear Cindy Sheehan and the Progesssive Democrats have endorsed them

2. Parents (and others) need to find out about this and COUNTER RECRUIT
If anyone has a doubt about this, go read the local school board policy manual. In Texas, it is acceptable, and part of free speech.

The idea is to approach the school armed with the facts to talk over setting up tables. If you don't do it, you can't know the answer.

3. In my high school circa 1969-73 we were given both sides
Usually by returning Vietnam veterans. The vets who were against that war seemed much more sincere and believable than the ones who were for it.

I have been disappointed that more veterans from Iraq are not going to the high schools giving the other side more than they do. I hope that changes soon.
