What is going to happen to the country when this is ALL over?
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 10:10 PM by ...of J.Temperance
What's going to happen to the United States when these Neo-Nazi POS are FINALLY squashed like a bug and kicked OUT?

They've created so much destruction, both domestically and abroad. It's going to take decades to recover from the orgy of carnage and damage they've created.

How is the United States going to begin to recover from this? Domestically, financially, socially and psychologically?

Where is the money to recover going to come from?

Division is a very unhealthy thing, Bush Inc. have deliberately driven wedges and opened raw nerves amongst the people, will people even be able to live amongst those who HATE them because they HATE what Bush Inc. has done...or will it become like another version of Yugoslavia?

What about recovering on the foreign stage, recovering from the Little Hitler Bully Boy years?

But this is like 1000 times WORSE than Watergate. I worry what Bush Inc's. End Game is and I also worry about how a nation recovers from it.

24. I must admit, despite the glee over where it looks like Fitz is headed,
I'm worried too, about what will come after. The country's situation is very different than it was right after Watergate.

...but, I think we will figure out a way to bounce back. What we will need ultimately is a strong, intelligent, ethical and confident new leader. Seems to me we have quite a few to choose from, so, we'll be ok in the long run, but it will be really tough for a while.

8. I am getting tired of the all negative approach
Being a Liberal (now know as Progressive) used to mean having a few original ideas. Now it means sitting on the sidelines and whining about King George. We are going to get our butts kicked AGAIN if we don't stop whining and actually suggest something. Here's an idea, how about a SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE SYSTEM like Canada? How about INCREASING THE SOCIAL SECURITY TAX RATE AND ELIMINATING THE MAXIMUM SOCIAL SECURITY EARNING RATE. More ideas, less bullshit and whining please.

7. Thanks - because I am so torn about the south
I love Southern writers, but I hate the general ignorance I hear of. I was at a conference for teachers today, and the keynote speaker said that when she is in the south, specifically Georgia and Texas, teachers come up to her and whisper, "YOu are right, testing is ridiculous," and then tell her they have to whisper because they will be fired if they don't.

And Arkansas and Tennessee, just COMPLETE peaches of people and really interesting to have conversations with. There's still a VERY strong Populist streak in those states...with the right candidate, a candidate like Senator Edwards for example.

is because they were/are the exceptions of the region.
Same for Joyce and Beckett and the whole Irish thing.

that is not anywhere near some of the things I have seen here is making this seem like Free Republic. I believe that there is a lot of ignorance and bigotry in the south, I said nothing violent, suggestive of violence, only said that I would prefer if we did not have to support the poor south with our taxes, only to be told that we are "immoral Yankees."

IF expressing an opinion in a thoughtful way gets a post removed, then this site is no better than Free Republic.

9. Until the 'base' is eliminated, it'll just go on.
These people have extensive support and have been slithering "up the ladder" for years, infiltrating school boards, local government, state government, national government, multinational corporations, and religious groups. All this time they've been sowing bigotry, greed, division, fear, jingoism, and superstition and pandering to ignorance.

It just ain't about one or two elections.

10. I agree completely
So how do we go about eliminating that Fundie nutjob base? We all know that they're a cancer on decent society and that they've spread like a bad disease...so how do we go about removing them?

I do have my own theory, which would basically use the Patriot Act to root them out and round them up and then put them all in our own special Gitmo's...that's what I'd do, because they're lower than whale shit and deserve NO mercy whatsoever.

However, what's the other way of eliminating them?

They will be punished and have to be punished, preferably in a very open WORLD COURT case... the country needs it for other reasons.

But we cannot use something like the UN Patriot Act... we need to use the Law... and the Nuremberg Indictments are a good precedent.

29. We need to shame them.
I know, it goes against the progressive grain, but we need to make it absolutely shameful to hold the view of "I got mine, and the rest of you go to hell." I am convinced that most are just bandwagon folks. They support whomever they perceive are on the winning team. So the best way to take them down is through ridicule and direct confrontation. Look at the way George Galloway does it. We all need to adopt at least some of the willingness to stand up and say, "ENOUGH!" This includes the polite religiosity. We need to stand up for every position, especially atheists, Muslims, and Pagans--at school board and PTA meetings, at children's clubs such as Scouts and sports teams, art museums and certainly in local politics. We need to support living wage laws VOCIFEROUSLY and we need to shout down ordinances such as the no-sleeping laws they put in place to eliminate the homeless. We need to DEMAND GLBT rights--marriage, adoption, survivorship, all of it. We need to stand up and walk the line for labor--the grocery workers, the teachers, the firefighters, the farm workers. And we need to do it boldly, without a hint of embarassment or hesitation. Most of all, we need to PAY ATTENTION to these small offices and vote and watch the voting mechanisms and RUN for offices ourselves or encourage others to run. And, of course, we need to MARCH on the MEDIA, not giving an inch, and KEEP IT UP until the tide is turned.

almost immediately! Have a little faith in us. Clinton said 'there is nothing wrong with American that can't be fixed with what is right with America." I believe him! Clinton also said that they(the repukes) need a divided nation, we don't. He's right there!

"Where is the money to recover going to come from?" The richest 1%, that's where! Make the richest among us pay their fair share and likewise the Corporations!

That man is gifted beyond belief and he's got the ability of being able to speak to the people we need to reach.

I agree that we have no other option but to have a MASSIVE tax hike on that richest 1% and we also have to have a MASSIVE windfall tax on the big corporations, we also need to dramatically slash the military budget...but I'd like some revenge too, I'd like to CUT TO THE BONE spending in Repuke districts and Repuke states, I'd STARVE Utah and Idaho for example because these freaks need to be PUNISHED for supporting the Neo-Nazi's.

I'm still only young, I haven't reached the age of 30 yet. But I'll run for office.

25. If that were to happen, there would be a world wide healing of
human suffering, the likes the which the world has never experienced.
It would show that with it's flaws, the American form of government is capable of sustaining itself under terrible odds. The people of the world would embrace us, grateful that we were able to kick the thugs out and return the U.S. to it's former position of loved and respected leadership.

The media would be regulated by disallowing the consolidation of ownership. The petroleum industry would be brought under control. Our military would be withdrawn from all wars of greed and power lust, used only for the real defense of the country. The religious right-wing fanatics would be relegated to their local hangouts, forbidden by law to practice Dominions politics rather that ethical religion. The voting system would return to hand written ballots, counted under the supervision of bipartisan committee, with no party affiliated State attorney generals in charge of elections. Congress would restore policies intended to protect the poor, elderly, middle and lower income people. The immoral and stupid tax windfalls for the super rich who don't even need the money will be rescinded.

Having said all of that wish list, I'm not at all confident that we'll ever be able to kick the crooks out. Because, the crooks in office are only representatives of the large corporations, who own our present government lock, stock and barrel. They are going to be difficult to oust. They've got money and know how and are willing to do anything to keep it. Yet, it could be done.

The 2006 election will tell us whether we will make it our not.

40. I think it was Gloria Steinhem who said:
The revolution must be fought again every generation.

But perhaps that is a good thing. We have allowed ourselves to forget what was hard won: Labor rights, voting rights, and apparently, even freedom of religion, press, speech, and assembly. We cannot take anything for granted and we must teach our children what we have learned. We have to teach them critical thinking, discernment, and how to stand up to bullies. We can create art and tell the stories, make legends out of the Cindy Sheehans, Paul Wellstones, and Medea Benjamins, so that they inspire lives the way that the founders and the suffragists did.
