LEGAL: What if a third party released Abu Ghraib pics? Illegal?

Question: There are a number of news organizations in possession of some of the Darby Photographs depicting the torture at Abu Ghraib. One, easily, is The Washington Post.

My question is, if the Washington Post, say, released the photographs it did have, would there be any legal repercussions?

Are these photographs classified in any special way?

1. It would probably depend on how they got them.

I wouldn't think they were classified if the Gov't never had the ones the news orgs have. But the news orgs could have gotten them from the gov't with the guarantee that they wouldn't be published until the court had issued it's final ruling.

Now they can hold you forever without charges, refuse to let you see a lawyer, ship you to Saudi Arabia for special interrogation, etc. etc. etc.
