The Aspens have all turned
According to the Weather Channel's Fall Foliage Map, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, most of Montana, and the mountains of New Mexico and Arizona are all past peak:

1. I hear they all turn together, because their roots are connected.

15. Am I the only person who read that differently ?
... when Scooter said that to her in that letter, I took it as a 'shut the fuck up or we're all gonna come after you(not Dick)' hint.

I'm not sure why it's being used as a humorous term on DU?

Or did I completely read it wrong ?

20. That's what I read
and that's why it is funny! Junior G-man talk. Although actually they could probably make good on their veiled threats.

It was either that or Scooter has the hots for Judy.

Hard to tell.

25. You didn't read it wrong, you interpreted it uniquely.
But the image was so poetic that it would be hard for me to find it threatening. In fact, I found the image to be peaceful and serene.

We find it funny because the "underlying" message is so blatant as to be almost a satire of "secret" code. Subtlety is not this Adminstration's strong suit.

And what also tickles us is the image of Scooter pining (pardon the pun) for his fair lady captured in her dark prison. He is wooing her to join him with his sweet and gentle poetry.

6. Does it mean anything when the foliage doesn't do shit?
We're getting very little turning of the leaves this year because of the poor rainfall.

Global warming...

21. Hey, we have trees in Kansas

They are expected to peak this weekend here. We got Aspens, too. We call them Cottonwoods. They are our state tree.

I don't think Judy Miller vacations here, though. :P

23. Though related, the Cottonwood is not truly an Aspen
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 08:53 AM by Walt Starr
Cottonwoods, Poplars, and Aspens are all related, but they are definitely different species. They are all of the Populus Genus.

Populus tremuloides - Quaking Aspen. North America. (thjis is the one Libby was talking about)
Populus deltoides - Eastern Cottonwood. Eastern North America.
Populus fremontii - Fremont Cottonwood. Western North America.
Populus angustifolia - Willow-leaved Poplar or Narrowleaf Cottonwood. Central North America.

27. OK, technically. But the leaves quake like aspens.
They are related but different. They are much much taller and bigger, but they also grow in clusters. I know because I have to cut down the runners every year. :D
