Why did Schwartznegger say that Cal-e-fornia should be like Texas?
I heard he said this today and wondered what was behind this...

2. I just read the comment here
So don't know in what context it was said. But the comment I read sounded like major league a** kissing to me. Maybe Musclehead thinks he can earn brownie points from Bush* by saying that.

3. There is nothing here worth emulating...
except some of the barbeque and specialty food.

We've dumped poor kids off Chips and medical care, shorted our schools, laid off social service workers and cut services, etc ad nauseum. And many of us here pay alot more in property taxes than they pay in Caleefornya. And we still have to put up with DeLay and Perry.

I can't fathom what he was talking about.

6. Well, quite apart from brown-nosing Bush...
... I would guess that the Austrian asshole means:

Tort reform
Voluntary environmental rules
Low wages
A tax structure benefitting the wealthy (corporate and individual)
Reduced governmental services
Increased poverty
Decreased regulatory oversight
Gerrymandered Congressional districts favoring the right
Decreased minority representation in government
Declining quality of life for the middle class and poor
Right-wing majority on superior courts

7. I would suggest to Calle fornians
to start that recall as soon as possible. Gary Davis won't look so bad after a year of the Govinator, let alone 4 yrs after that.

8. He doen't Know Us

Californians are proud of our State despite the recall craziness. Isn't it the other way around, Texas wants to be more like CA?

I heard that the Governor has even less power in Texas. If that's what he means...

11. Maybe he meant...
that he'd be happier with a Legislature that only met every other year. That'd give him time to *bone up*, if you get my drift.

No. Not 'that'!

Another revolting thought I had...remember the last time we had an actor and an anorexic in Sacramento? ::+:

13. I am a Native Californian
Lived there until 1992 when I moved to Texas, just in time for the Bush* takeover. I still have family living in California. I am sorry this happened to my home state and I sure as heck don't want it to become what Bush* made of Texas.

9. he means ruinous tax cuts and their legacy
of terrible deficits. TX was the testing ground for the worthless tax cut scheme the nation now has. Oh, and we are "right to work" which ties in with the low wages, etc. that are on punpirate's list.

If you have any lingering fantasies that "Arnold" is some sort of closet liberal or democrat, please think again. If you want Texas-style problems, then "Arnold" is offering them to you. Run for your damn lives.

16. hey!!!
I suggest california embrace what Arnold said...

be like texas... have your legislature redistrict - and divide Orange County amongst 3 districts (one can reach into Compton) the same way the pubs are carving Travis County into 3 pieces to try to get rid of LLoyd Doggett.

... and be sure to thank him for the idea.

Texas is Missouri with better roads?

Why would California want to be like Texas and why would the idiot insult the people that just voted for him...
No pride...

12. He has at least two blueprints he can use to *remodel* CA : TX & FL.
Whatever evil has been done to those two states is what he/they(string-holders) envision for California. Right off the bat, I'd start closing every loophole associated with institutions that have money just sitting there(Calpers). Find out precisely what he can do by executive order. Keep him distracted with lawsuits. Just my 2.

17. They've reported out here today...
...that he intends to place a Jeb Bush operative in the position of overseeing the state's budget 'new/improved' re-publican audit. As for he suggesting as such at the top of this thread? Cali being more like Texas? He owes the Bush Family Oligarchy big time and they are here to collect; Vichy Dem Maria Kennedy-Shriver or no Vichy Dem Maria Kennedy-Shriver ~

20. One thing that just occured to me :
Are there any reps or senators that would jump ship/switch sides? I know the dems control both, but is it close enough that defectors would swing the balance to Repub?

23. My sense is that Dem resolve will stiffen...
Among the fallacy of the recall was that everyone here in Sac does not understand what is going on. Repub claims to "open" the books are absurd as the law requires them to be as such. Many more will be watching, and this includes the likes of McClintock, as to whether Jeb Bush will be running in here to close them down as the Bush family has done elsewhere. They do so love their secrecy, their smoke & mirrors as is plainly seen nationally and in Florida on a daily basis. But then again it is all like...

Jesse Ventura was a cast member of 'Predator' as well. So we'll see. There may be waltzing members of each party here & there. But one more snippy, self-righteous, insufferably dumb-ass wise-crack out of Darrel Issa and it will all be over. The Cali St Legislature is a bit like trying to herd cats. And there are whole segments of the state that don't give a shit about Hollywood. Let alone: A. Schwartznegger. It is his " mirror, mirror on the wall" makeup mirror. Let him get lost therein ~

14. Well Texas is just Mississippi with good roads
according to a Texas DUer comment a few weeks ago, so is Arnold really talking about turning Callie-Foh-nea into Mississsippi ?

Wouldn't surprise me none.

21. Texas roads aren't what they used to be.
The rural roads are still fantastic. 70mph limits, even on two lane ranch-market and farm-market routes, wide shoulders, good condition.

However, they got defunded a decade or so ago, so in the major metropolitan areas, there's a good bit of mess. I-35 from San Antonio to Dallas, like Kaleeforneea, has traffic jams on the weekends, and neverending construction that never really does what it needs to do, a la Pennsylvania (the keystone merely being the cross-section of a concrete barrier).

15. If California had a Texas mentality
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 11:50 PM by Buzzz
the coastline would be a series of strip malls and condos. Texification of Cal would surely destroy it. No regulation means no environmental protection. Just look at Houston.
