Iraq Coalition Casualty Count; they wrote an entire article about us!

A Somber Tally In Iraq

Formally known as the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, the site has developed a reputation for being more complete and faster to get the news out than other sources available to the public. It has been cited in The New York Times, on the BBC and in other news outlets including the U.S. government-run Voice of America. A few months ago, the Times asked for permission to use data from the site in a front-page graphic that ran with a story about the number of deaths caused by roadside bombs. When White saw that issue of the paper at Starbucks, "I was very excited."

Paula Froke, projects editor for The Associated Press, says the wire service routinely checks its nightly tally of U.S. casualties against the icasualties Web site and Defense Department news releases. Froke says that icasualties is often quicker than government sources to report the names of the deceased.

Around the planet, when people hear there may have been casualties in Iraq, they flock to icasualties.org. In August, one of the deadliest months for U.S. troops in Iraq, the site got more than 8 million hits, translating into roughly 266,000 visitors a day, according to White. That's a huge increase over two years ago when the site got closer to 400,000 hits a month.

1. ICCC is about the only site I check for casualities.
Give yourself and the rest of the team a large pat on the back.

You guys are the standard of reference;

7. After checking email
icasualties is my first stop in the morning, I really appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping the site running, who knows where we would be now if they hadn't dedicated themselves, completely living in a 1984 darkness I imagine.
Thanks guys.

8. It's an excellent site, and a tremendous resource...
and you should all be very proud of the important work that you do. I just wish it wasn't necessary.

:toast:
