U.S. warns Iran over Iraq bomb attacks, Rice says

LONDON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - The United States has issued a stern warning to Iran over the Islamic republic's possible involvement in helping insurgent bomb attacks in Iraq, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday.

Washington has backed accusations from its closest ally Britain that there is evidence insurgents laying roadside bombs, or improvised explosive devices (IEDs), in southern Iraq might be using sophisticated technology linked to neighbouring Iran.

The United States has no formal diplomatic ties with Iran but occasionally talks to the government through Swiss diplomats in Tehran or through the Islamic republic's ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

Looks like they're going to come up with a newer, more immediate reason to attack Iran.

2. Yes, this after a UK commander says not evidence of Iran involvement
in Iraq. Nothing new here Condi is lying for the neocon warhawks who are itching to squeeze the pickle and irradiate opponents of our "friends" in the region.

3. This really worries me
What really worries me is the timing in the light of the Bush Administratiion's propensity for using diversions in times of crisis. Stray backpacks on the transport network...panic...don't look over there...look here. And, as we all know, the Bush administration just could be facing a crisis that will finger Cheney et al and the whole house of cards just might...just might...come tumbling down.

Maybe that's why the rhetoric on Iran is getting stronger at this point in time. I'm probably way off the mark but, given the track record of the Bush crowd, it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to create one enormous diversion. Even a tense stand off could have the desired effect.
