The Bashing Judy Thread
This thread is to unleash on Judy Woodruff.

I don't mind her asking tough questions. But being rude, and showing that she is going to vote for Bush is not professional.

She would ask a question and not even let them speak 5 words people interupting with a new question.

She doesn't know what she is doing. That is clear. Go come Judy and let someone that knows how to run a debate do it. Also get out the way, she was blocking the shots of the candidates trying to speak.

Mike

1. I can't stand her - but Greenfield is even worse.
He openly asked something like "Don't you agree that the Democratic Party is out of touch with mainstream American values?" Jesus. What a scum he is.

Woodruff: Open expression of disdain & hostility on her face while speaking with various candidates. She probably didn't realize the camera caught that, on the reverse-angle.

51. Why oh why Judy - letter written to CNN
I am tired of writing nice letters....first I called them and left a long message, then I wrote my feedback comments:

Dear CNN:
RE: Democratic debate

Why was Judy Woodruff telling the Democratic candidates not to criticize President Bush?
Who is she to protect Bush?
Why did she interrupt everybody....and grunt thru their answers?
Why did she come up with the same attacks toward Wes Clark that he has had to answer since he entered the race?
Why didn't a front runner get the question about "a vision for America"?......that's the Democrats we wanted to hear from.
Why was she encouraging the candidates to attack each other, and not Bush?
Why did other candidates get to bash Bush and Judy told Wes Clark to shut up about it already?
Why was the fax from Kerry's staff allowed to make on stage? That was not professional at all!
Why is CNN attempting to tell us who our candidate should to be?
Why was Schneider who hates democrats...with his weasel smile....and Gergen, who obviously hates Wesley Clark allowed to discuss the debate? Who are they, and why do they know anything?

All in all the debate was not a debate but a Fool's fight. Woodruff appears to dislike every candidate and was putting herself too much in the mix. The question from the woman about the "spanish enconomy" was terrible.....Wes Clark should have gotten the N. Korea question...but was ignored...when Judy decided that had been covered. No, Judy, what was covered was you asking Clark about being a Democrat, blah, blah, blah....We wanted to hear more about N. Korea and Iran.

No wonder Fox gets more viewers...at least they have real debates. You guys are the laughting stock of the internet world and the progressive press. Total, total nonsense! I guess that why Arnold won.....you guys think we are all just stupid, I guess.

Love, Catherine

But the money and the Rove walking papers have gotten to him. He even piled on with repugs in the distortion and smearing of the Wellstone memorial per Al Franken's book. Gosh folks, we're in f***ing trouble with moderators like him, Candy Lardass, Judge Judy.

She alternatively grunted, interrupted, or even carried on a separate conversation while the candidates spoke.

She even at one point told them not to criticize the pResident.

Aiding and abetting the dirty Kerry fax trick was beyond unprofessional.

She quite simply reeked.

Although I was pleased with the candidates, I agree they should not be presented with biased moderators. There is little doubt that Woodruff and Greenfield are card-carrying media whores for the Bush cabal. Why do the Democrats tolerate this?

How much more air could Lieberman suck up? No substantial questions to Clark at all. Questions to most of them that sound more like Fox talking points than thoughtful questions and no attempt to even out the time that each candidate got. I'm really disappointed about the way it was run.

In fact I am doing Bozo a grave injustice here.

My problem with Judy is that she did not seem to understand when the candidates actually answered her questions. She seemed to be laboring under the misconception that she was almost as smart as any one of the candidates.

More than once she attempted to incite them to rip into each other, and more than once she tried to explicitly frame questions so they didn’t criticize Bush with their answers. She should take her Bush-brand kneepads off when she gets to work. Don’t hold your breathe though.

30. Bad Lighting, Bad Sound, Shaky Cameras, Rude Mods
Seriously, how much crappier could this thing get?

There was a hollow echo and a squeaking for all the candidates, the lighting hollowed out their faces, the shaky cameras made them look like the Blair Witch, and the moderators were smug to begin with and rude to finish with. They encouraged - no begged - for divisiveness, and interrupted whenever someone actually began to talk about real policy differences.

Woodruff would walk away from the candidates as she was answering the questions, forcing them to talk to her moving back - which was visibly distracting for the candidates.

I have a thousand misogynistic words to use for her right now, none of which I will say out loud.

Plus - pulling out the Kerry fax just when the Dems had a achieved a positive, even visionary tone, was unfair to both Dean and Kerry (who was visibly unhappy).

45. my letter (I tried to be reasonable)
I realize that it is very hard to pull off an informational *debate* with nine candidates on stage and less than ninety minutes.

However, Ms. Woodruff's performance was particularly ineffectual. From the get-go, a negative attitude emanated from her. She and her CNN sidekicks could not get away from one unsubstantiated premise; that Democrats are losing the minds and hearts of Americans. Question after question implied and asserted this false premise.

And so the evening was framed. And Woodruff scowled and prodded and participated in ambushes but failed to meet what she often claimed was her purpose -- to show differences between the candidates.

It seems fairly clear that the nation is not better informed after this session than it was before, except for what was revealed about Woodruff's ability as a big-league moderator.

Damn, though, Candey was reasonably coherent and precise in asking her questions, and above all SHE DIDN'T INTERRUPT THE CANDIDATES.

Woodruff and Greenfield showed themselves as utterly unqualified for this kind of work.

Very simply put, this was NOT a debate. It was a chaotic flamefest that falsely advertised itself as a debate. I've seen more polite "debates" in unmoderated arguments on IRC. Shout out to Al Sharpton (!) for being witty, polite to the other candidates, and directly confronting bitch judy's attempts to shut people down.

52. Here's what I wrote to CNN
Judy Woodruff did a lousy job of moderating the debate. She interrupted the candidates, gave some candidates more time than others, told them not to bash Bush (Democrats can't bash Bush?), tried to egg them on to insult one another, did not ask candidates questions about their strongest areas of expertise, and worst of all, acted as conduit for an ambush of Gov. Dean, purportedly with a fax from the Kerry campaign. (I am not a Dean supporter--he's about fourth on my list, but that was a dirty, unprofessional trick).
The debates were much better when the League of Women Voters ran them.
Oh, and why did you have Jeff Greenfield, who indulged in spacey Democrat-bashing questions, when you had no one who was equally pro-Democratic on the panel?
CNN, you get a C- for this debate.

A Fairness Doctrine revival is all but assured. Tonight's debate on what is considered the more Democratically leaning of the major news networks has shown to the leaders of the party just how bad it has gotten, firsthand. I could see them seethe at times due to the bias. It's become a matter of survival and they know it.

59. Here is my email to CNN -
Dear CNN,

I watched the Democratic candidates' debate tonight, & want to tell you that your moderators Judy Woodruff and Jeff Greenfield both behaved outrageously & unprofessionally. Usually I dislike Candy Crowley, but she was the best of the lot tonight -- mainly because the other 2 were so ghastly.

Woodruff was openly hostile towards many of the 9 candidates, & seemed to think the debate was ALL ABOUT HER. She didn't understand that no one cares one whit what she thinks; her job is to facilitate discussion, then get out of the way. At one point she forbade candidates to criticize President Bush, who is well-recognized the whole world over as a gangster, a liar, and war criminal. How can you forbid his political opponents to criticize him? What is this, Stalin's Russia?

Mr. Greenfield asked one "question" that boiled down to, "Don't you agree that the Democratic Party does not have mainstream American values." What kind of question is that? That's like "When did you stop beating your wife."

Your unprofessional crew was also unfair in its allotment of time to the different speakers. Mr. Kucinich and Mr Sharpton - the most interesting of the 9, in many ways - got only about one minute each.

If you ever sponsor another debate, I hope you will make an effort to replace these outrageously biased, hostile & conceited "moderators" with people more interested in doing the job, & less interested in injecting their own vulgar opinions onto center stage.

Sincerely,
....
