National Strikes.
I have noticed that national strikes have been successful in Europe and India in calling attention to government/corporate malfeasance. Not suprisingly, the national strike in India received scant coverage in the US but was covered by the BBC. I wonder how this might work in the US. If you could convince half of the hourly workers in a major city to walk off of their jobs for a day, I wonder if corporate Amerika might get the message.

2. I Believe That a Strike Would

Be effective.....but the job I have now took me a long time to get and many people rely on me being there, employees and pasengers.

I will have to continue to effect discussion whereever I go and make people aware of what is happening to their country.

4. not a bad idea, but. . .
not to pop any bubbles, but they could have planned these events better. why do i say this? 1. It's going to be in winter and we have already seen how the MSM has reported how prices for gas, etc. are going to go out of control. 2. It's the holiday season and if people think that gas prices are going to be crazy for the winter, people are going to want to buy whatever they can afford for the holidays to spread some cheer.

you ask if corporate america would get the message? nah, they wouldn't. They'd spin it as dissident factions of communistic workers and as aiding and abetting the 'terrus' organizations. futhermore, those who would call in to 'strike' would probably be booted from their jobs and replaced by someone from a temp service. and, with all these middle aged reagan era kids now grown and working--i'll venture to say that half of them would view strike as strikes = union = bad, bad, bad!

then again... one can hope that a mass strike would happen and begin a change. i just don't see it happening yet. you gotta start taking away the ipod for christmas and new video game away from the kids before they start to grumble.

6. What is your message to corporate America?
I don't think strikes are worth it unless they have a definite objective. The 2 in post #3 do, but they are aimed at the government, not corporations. If all you're saying is "we're not happy with the overall state of things", then I don't think any company is going to decide to do things differently.

8. in addition to world can't wait's november 2nd rally,
there are at three cities in which students are planning walkouts, seattle, boston, and minneapolis-st. paul (the last one which I am involved with). There are smaller scale ones in other cities. M-SP is planning on having 1-3 thousand at their rally, with many more kids actually walkout out, but not being able to get to the rally at the U of Minn.
