Army Recruitment Woes - and the Four-Letter Explanation
by Rick Mercier

The guys charged with replenishing the Army's ranks are as welcome in some quarters as carriers of bird flu.

These days that fry-cook job at McDonald's is looking a lot more enticing to potential young recruits than it did a just few years ago. And parents across the land have come up with an alternate take on an old cheer, crying out "Go away, Army" to beleaguered recruiters.

i love this part . . .

You probably know some of these pro-war types. Maybe you've had to endure the guy next door or the guy in church talking up the war.

Well, why not log on to goarmy.com and sign him up for an info pack? Old Earl can slap that flag magnet of his on the Hummer he'll be driving through Sadr City.

CommonDreams

do you think we could send recruiters to crawford? :smoke:

1. Invade the schools?
Hell, wait until they invade your HOMES. Been there, done that one under Leave No Child Behind 4 years ago. ENDLESS phone calls (with a daughter). And won't take NO for an answer. They pass bills to prevent Telemarketers from invading your home and your privacy, but the Military is exempt? Yes, she was 18 years old and an adult, but she was still in HS, supported by her parents, and living under MY ROOF.

3. Hi, Epiphany4z...welcome to DU!
I love your user name, and as a fellow tree-hugger, I also really appreciate your signature line. Here in south Mississippi, with so many great trees blown down by the hurricane, it's like walking through the mutliated corpses of old friends. Not in our lifetimes will huge oaks and pecan trees like these regrow. Very sad. :hi:

4. Hi, Thanks for the welcome Gildor
Ya I took note of all the trees down. I thought about the lost historic buildings also...I just love history and it tweaked my heart strings a bit. Not like watching people beg for food and water for 5 days on tv...but ya know..
