"Time to get the hell out" -- Max Cleland

"...So I think it's smart for us now, since there are no weapons of mass destruction there, since there is no tie between Sadaam Hussein and the attack on this country 9/11, and there are no nuclear weapons materials coming up from Africa, so I think it's time to get the hell out and bring our troops home ..."

-- Former Senator Max Cleland on _Real Time_ with Bill Maher

Someone remind me how no Democrats have any guts to speak the truth...

4. "They" are?

Okay.

How about we focus on the positive aspects of our party, lift them up and showcase those who speak our minds for us. Is that a bad idea?

6. Lost three limbs, served his country in govt, and then ...
Then, he got butchered by the Bush hate machine, lied about, schemed about, painted as evil and unpatriotic.

God Damn them all!

9. Cleland rocks!!
What a great guy ... charismatic, funny, a genuine hero. If only there were more of Cleland in Kerry, we'd have the White House.

17. Possibly ...

Possibly not ...

Cleland was "swiftboated" before that was a term.

Kerry can be criticized as lacking a dynamic personality, but I'm not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things. People with dynamic personalities have been trashed by these fools in power now and with even less justification.

19. I respectfully disagree
Bush was so bad that even with the shitty campaign Kerry ran, he came within striking distance. Cleland barely lost in Georgia, during the lead-up to the Iraq war, during a time that can only be described as mass lunacy(remember "freedom fries"?). That is quite different from losing to Bush nationally in the aftermath of the Iraq catastrophe. I remember so vividly the contrast between Cleland's speech and Kerry's at the convention. Cleland's brought tears to my eyes. Kerry made me want to puke. Unfortunately, only Kerry's was nationally televised, as I recall. Forget about the common-sense Cleland would have had, which would have led him to have a coherent message, and critique of the Bush regime.

21. You recall incorrectly ...

I'm actually not at all clear on what you recall watching with regard to the DNC, Cleland, and Kerry. This is vivid to you?

Cleland was nationally televised. He introduced John Kerry. And, Kerry's DNC speech was quite possibly the best of the entire campaign.

I will respectfully note that your criticism has no basis in reality.

11. How can I get in touch with Max? I live in Ga. and I am still pissed
about what the liers did to him! I've heard rumors that he hasn't given up on politics. How can I/we get in touch with him? I know we are stuck with the 2 idiots we have in the Senate for a couple of years, but our Governor is running for reelection!

If Max isn't interestd in that, I know there are lots of people who would back him for a rerun for the Senate!

I guess it sounds pretty dumb for me not to know how to reach him, since I think he lives in Atlanta, but somehow I doubt he's listed in the phone book!

12. Max Cleland is one of the few real heroes in politics today...and I do not
mean only because of his VietNam service.

He speaks for me as well.

16. Agreed ...

I've been accused of invoking his name "just because he's a vet." Without getting into the disconnect involved in that "accusation," the reason I like Max has absolutely nothing to do with his being a veteran. He's a fighter who clearly knows right from wrong and is willing to speak his mind. May sound weird, but watching him on _Real Time_ also emphasized for me how he's a real person. He can laugh at a good joke, apparently not concerned with what "people might think" of it.

I want to do unkind things to the people who are responsible for defaming this man.

That actor guy used to be a die hard Republican guest. Tonight,
you simply wouldn't know that.

18. Wow
I kinda figured he was a republican at one point but he seemed to be pretty pissed. Sometime's it looked as though he was going to be a Bush apologist but wasn't really.
