"Do not post duplicate topics that have already been posted."
From MESSAGE BOARD RULES (LONG VERSION)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/forums/rules.html

Here's my problem: I just don't have the time or inclination to search EVERY message board before I post something to make absolutely sure it's not a dupe. I usually hang out at GD and Lounge. I faithfully check those boards before I post.

I rarely visit Editorials, or Economy, or Military, or most of the other boards available. If I bring something up here, it's because I'd like to see it discussed or commented on here. I don't WANT to "continue the discussion" over there.

I know that according to the rules I am "free to leave" if I disagree, which smacks of "my country, love it or leave it", but that's another discussion. I love it, but I ain't leaving.

I think the mods could use a little discretion and cut some slack on dupes that appear on different boards.
Thank you.

Striving to Get Gruntled Again.

1. I think the message is just to encourage people to look before they post
One look at the "Latest" page, will tell if the article we want to post, has already been posted.. Lots of folks don't realize that lots of people use that page as their "front page" , and when they click on it and see the same story repeated 4 or 5 times, it's kind of annoying..

Everyone "wants" to be the one who posts the big story first, but there's no harm in just adding your WP story to the Chicago Sun Times story that had already been posted.. Actually , it's a great idea, because it helps to see how the other papers cover the same story..

4. Some of my posts are coming up more than once
Also, many times I get an error message when I try to click on a post. Seems we have a nasty bug running around in here.

This is the messgae I just got when I tried to post this response:

Couldn't connect to the database. Please make sure all the information in dcsetup.php is correct

5. hit "Reload" or "Refresh"
and that should fix it--according to tech support

____

We are fully aware of this problem. If you hit "Refresh" when you see that
error message, you should eventually get through. We hope to have it fixed
as soon as possible.

Please see this thread for more details:

6. I'm getting the same message...
... in both the LBN and GD forums. It often takes several attempts just to make a single valid connection. Apparently DU has a bad case of the hiccups today!

10. Are all your dupe replies an attempt at humor?
Just kidding. Know it's another glitch.
Funny that it happened in this thread thought.

NOW THIS IS MY THIRD ATTEMPT to answer.
"cannot connect to database" every time I hit the "Post" button.
arrrggghhh

9. Have the rules changed?
many time I have posted in 'Activism' only 2 have someone suggest I put it in GD so more people will see it. I have made the same suggestion myself a time or 2.

11. Maybe I didn't make myself clear.
One look at the "Latest" page will show a FEW of the latest postings in various boards.
Much better (and easier) to search at least page 1 of the board you're on.
My point is that if I post something on GD, it's because that's where I want to discuss it. These are the folks I hang out with and this is where I want to talk about it.

I would propose that the dupe rule apply to each board and not between boards.
