Theory about "flu pandemic", military quarantining, and oil prices
Ok, if GWB gets the nod to use martial law, it will probably be a wide power. With Oil prices high and winter coming, GWB and crew could claim people have the flu when they are really freezing and starving to death.

He could keep the press out, and lotsa other nasty stuff. We saw what happened post-Katrina, and I put nothing past this bunch.

Pray for a mild winter folks, because it could get REAL ugly, REAL fast!

1. I would not put it past him. To take your piece one step further.
Quarantine a couple major cities this winter on both coasts then declare Martial Law and suspend the Constitution then declare Martial Law. No elections in 08 and your new Dictator is MR Danger.

2. It could have happened before the Internet. Now word would
get out somehow-I hope.

3. I'm not going to say too much
However, mandyky, the real questions we should be asking include:

WHY is the concept of using the military in place of civil emergency teams being promoted?

Was there a detailed policy analysis within the administration and what factors informed the discussion?

Who was involved in the discussion?

Maybe there are perfectly good reasons for trying to introduce these powers. The question that rises above them all though is what are those reasons?

This is not a good sign.
