CNN shows Iraqis cheering dead US soldier
AOL on lead webpage has screen save shot of CNN where
CNN shows Iraqis crowd cheering US dead soldier.

-----------------------------------------

BAGHDAD, Iraq (July 16) -- A U.S. soldier, an 8-year-old Iraqi child, and a pro-American mayor and his son were killed Wednesday as pro-Saddam Hussein insurgents unleashed a string of violent attacks on the eve of a recently banned Baath Party holiday.

The soldier was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack on a supply convoy west of Baghdad near the Abu Ghraib prison, a U.S. military spokesman said.

The grenade blasted into the soldier's truck, hurling him out, as the 20-vehicle convoy passed along a main highway Wednesday morning. Soldiers at first believed a bomb was remotely detonated as the convoy passed.

CNN showed footage of Iraqis cheering at the attack scene.

1. This was bound to happen-- doesn't make it less horrible though
The sad consquence is that it puts further pressure on our troops... many will be looking for the slightest pretext to take revenge.

So the cycle of violence begins...

2. Pro-Saddam insurgents?
I can't help wondering if this description is deductive rather than inductive, that is they *must* have been pro-Saddam if they were anti-American. Is there any *evidence* as opposed to assumption?

3. this is sad
Iraqis were supposed to be cheering live American soldiers, not dead.
How is the family of this soldier supposed to feel?
Da*n every so-called patriot who led us into this mess.

6. will be turning point for some Americans
Remember how fast the turnaround was for Clinton when they dragged the bodies of American soldiers through the streets in Mogadishu? We were out of there in a heartbeat.

I'm not saying we'll be out of Iraq; I'm just saying this is what will turn the politically unaware against the war in Iraq. The politically unaware, remember, think we are actually there to do a "good thing" (liberate the Iraqi people).

I can't share your optimism
I wish I could, but I personally feel that footage like that will probably relight a fire under the general public to pull for our troops to take off the gloves and as the Freeps would say "kick some serious raghead ass".

To be honest I could see it spinning back into Bush's favor.

8. nice....
I'm so happy to see that Iraq has turned into a stable and functioning democracy and that our troops are all able to come home safe and sound and quickly. Not.

Ya know, Shrub has got us in to one hell of a pickle this time.

This is sort of O/T, but heard a report today on Iran and how among some segments of Iranian society they now see the days of the Shah as "the good old days." And soon we will be hearing some segments of Iraqi society fondly recalling the reign of Saddam as "the good old days".

Just like Ann Coulter speaks fondly of dear old Joe McCarthy and that era as "the good old days."

We are so screwed.
