The elephant in the room that no one talks about
The quote below is, of course, a lie.

But it's more than that because any rational person would know that the whole world knows it is a lie.

It is an example of misspeaking.

But it's more than misspeaking because it is a whole idea and not just a word or words.

The quote below can only mean that Bush suffers delusions.

And that's dangerous.

<<We gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in.>>

5. He said it during the press opportunity with Kofi Annan--
on Monday I think. You can get the transcript at www.whitehouse.gov

Also, look for a thread on this started by Kainah. In the Washington Post on Tues in an article by Walter Pincus it was also mentioned (though not headlined).

I think the consensus is that Bush* doesn't even know he's lying--he lives in his own bizarre reality. And yes this is dangerous! Arguably, he is mentally ill.

6. July 14, during his photo op with Kofi Annan
I didn't see Annan's reaction, but diplomat that Annan is, he didn't fall off his chair, puking or laughing.

Defending
the broader decision to go to war with Iraq, the president said the

The president's assertion that the war began because Iraq did not admit

opposed extending their work because he did not believe them effective."

13. Back in September 2002 Iraq said "COME AND LOOK!"

And Bushler answered the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister by saying, "We don't have to." The quote is from CNN article on the Iraq War Resolution:

EXCERPT...

The Bush administration and its supporters in Congress say Saddam has kept a stockpile of chemical and biological weapons in violation of U.N. resolutions and has continued efforts to develop nuclear weapons. Bush also has argued that Iraq could give chemical or biological weapons to terrorists.

Iraq has denied having weapons of mass destruction and has offered to allow U.N. weapons inspectors to return for the first time since 1998. Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Tawab Al-Mulah Huwaish called the allegations "lies" Thursday and offered to let U.S. officials inspect plants they say are developing nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.

"If the American administration is interested in inspecting these sites, then they're welcome to come over and have a look for themselves," he said.

The White House immediately rejected the offer, saying the matter is up to the United Nations, not Iraq.

14. Bush does have a defense of this quote.
He can say he meant that once in the country, the inspectors were not given 100% freedom to search.

15. New Press Sec explained the misstatement
<<We gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in.>>

He said by "him" Bush meant not Saddam but Iraqi King Issam (1903-14).
By "wouldn't let in inspectors" Bush was referring to the King's
refusal to let in agricultiural inspectors who wanted to do a study
on some grape mold in Baghdad. Nothing here, go home, move along.
