Bustamante Could Hold Arnold Prisoner
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2003/10/8/204111.shtml

Will Cruz Bustamante hold Arnold Schwarzenegger a prisoner of the state the governor-elect calls Caleeefornya?
Americans now know California’s constitution is peculiar, allowing for an easy relatively easy recall of its sitting governor.

But few know that the Lieutenant Governor plays more than a ceremonial role. In fact, he can make the governor a prisoner in his own state, simply by becoming governor every time Arnold decides to take a trip outside the state.

regardless of the source, this article did bring a smile to my face

go Ahnuld--go on LONG trips and let the adults run the state

1. Yes, he can and will.
No fundraisers out of state for this guy hopefully. Actually, it's more common than not for the two to be of opposing offices. During the 16 years of Deukmejian and Wilson, we have Democratic lieutenant governors, and during Jerry Brown's second term, he had a GOP number two.

8. I remember when Jerry Brown was governor the
GOP Lt. Gov used to try and appoint judges and other things. Hmm...might keep Arnold from fund raising around the country.

13. What's so weird about it?
"Jesus H. Christ, just when I thought it couldn't get ANY FING WEIRDER!!!"

In California gov. and lt. gov. are elected separatley, just like the US used to do with the pres and vp (albeit waaaaayyy before my time). I like it: it provides one more check on the power of the executive. What's unusual to me is having both gov and lt. gov from the same party.

Besides, we have a reputation to uphold out here.

3. I heard CB yesterday saying:

Arnie, take ALL the trips you want. Make ALL the movies you want. I'll be here to take care of things while you're away...

4. Remember Mike Curb?
He was the right-wing Lieutenant Governor under Jerry Brown. Every time Brown left the state, Curb would pass a flurry of laws proposed by his cronies in the legislature. Brown became a virtual prisoner of California. Which, I admit, isn't as bad as it sounds.

Tío Cruz could easily do the same thing to Ahnold.

Like I've said before, Gov. Schwartzenegger isn't going to be half the behemoth he may seem to be.

ps -- Mike Curb was also called "Mr. Clean" because of his morally pure image. Until a porn film was discovered showing him singing in a bathtub with two naked starlets. C'est la vie, dude.

7. and don't forget Curb.
Because if Cruz does in fact pass some laws with Arnie out of state, the Pugs are gonna go nuts.

I had to point out this reminder back in the 1990's when Davis was Lt. Gov under Wilson.

11. Is that Mike Curb, the record producer?
He was in charge of MGM Records when they officially decided to go squeaky clean and embrace family values. That meant they dropped the Velvet Underground (from their Verve division) and Eric Burdon, and pushed the Cowsills and the Osmonds.

Same guy? Bwah-ha-ha-haa!

12. You betcha
By the way, the Cowsills ended up getting the feces-laden end of Mike "Jesus Jr." Curb's lickin' stick. Susan Cowsill recently married dB's member Peter Holsapple, whom she met through Bangle Vicki Peterson, as a member of the rootsy/Americana band the Continental Drifters, and her brothers are still knocking around the music biz, "progressive" singer-songwriters.

Curb, meanwhile, still plots his political and business comebacks with his fan club, like a fundamentalist version of Pinky and the Brain.

Susie C. is still as cute as a jar full of buttons; Curb is just as slimy as ever.

The more things change, eh?

6. BUSTAMANTE STILL HAS HIS JOB????
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 02:57 PM by rocknation
Arnold may soon discover that a hostile media, and a raucous Democratic legislature may pale compared to his other potential adversary - his own Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.

I had NO IDEA--I thought Arnold got to choose is own lieutenant. But where does this put Bustamante's lawsuit against Enron? Wow--this could actually be FUN!!!!

10. Gov and Lt Gov
are elected separate in California.

Want to hear another shitty attempt from the Cal Repukes. In 1996 when Wilson was attempting his sorry try to run for Pres, he and Atty General Dan Lungren got together and wanted to change the California consitution that would ELIMINATE the office of Lt. Governor giving the power to the Attnorey General should the gov leave office.

18. Bustamante said ...
I saw him being interviewed and he was saying that he'd be keeping a real close eye on Ahnuld and that he was on to him and that he'd better be cautious (or something to that effect). It was the only smile I've been able to find so far. :grr:

15. If Bustamante tries this....
...WE will enjoy it, and so will our base.

BUT, most Californians will not.
They're already pissed.
A stunt like that would do nothing more than strengthen our enemies.

...would call upon his many minions who so gleefully voted for "The Terminator".
Ah-node would use his celebrity power on their dull minds, to convince them to vote republican...
