Howard Dean did a fine job on Letterman tonight. He was funny
and smart. I liked what he said about we want honesty back in government and when Dave gave him a hard time about Dems not being "scandal free" he said yes but there is a difference between a personal scandal and putting taxpayer money in your pocket; he mentioned Ohio scandal too. I love how he can lay out a plan, hit the points, so quickly and so effectively. He even showed a sense of humor about his "salami" moment. I don't take his comment on Miers too seriously because he also said we have to know more about her. I think the "praise" for her is all part of the plan. Go Dr. Dean. You rock.

1. YEP! Nothing but praise for him from me!
I also notice he's becoming much more relaxed on interviews lately. I knew he would. All this public stuff takes practice! I'm so glad to see he's retaining his honesty though. He always tells it like it is!

6. I'm really hoping at least some of the Dems follow his lead!
It should be obvious to them by now, that it's the genuineness that most people are longing for! I don't think it's only Dems either! That's one of the reasons Hackett almost won that strong Pub district in Ohio!

18. He sees it.
That's why his main point was to put "HONESTY" back into government.
Most Americans are not phonies. There are some, sure.
We want Honesty. It isn't that hard!

5. Oh yes
I think so too. I haven't seen this one yet but I remember seeing him on the "Daily Show" after he got the job and he was so nervous you could tell, but now he's getting so much better. Here's to Dean! :toast:

12. His reform of Dem party is real.
In Kansas, we have always been overlooked by the party. But now he is giving us some resources and this will mean more contested races and more Dems in the state legislature over time. This was the first state he came to in his Red State tour and we got to meet him. He is the real deal.

Agree about message. He is doing it more artfully. Now if we can win about 10 seats in Congress in 2006 and get an anti-war nominee in 2008, we will be on our way to renewal.

15. Good!
That's one reason why I wanted Dean as chairman. His grassrooting efforts are the best and I love his plans and ideas on returning the party back to the people as it should be.

We need them ALL! There are democrats everywhere. We demand representation. Don't we?

4. Sounds good!
Is there a video yet? I hope someone got one! I also think it's apart of the plan. What has Pelosi said about Miers yet? And Stephanie Miller mentioned this on her show. Basically she said how if you're out there roping yourself you don't need anybody else to jump in. ;)

I saw him with Wolf too! I love it when Howard can smack a talking head! He also did a great job on MTP. That's where the salami story came from.

8. It was great how he compared Dems vs. Repukes.
Especially pointing out that Dems actually let the voters decide the nominees, instead of just "picking candidates". (Although, after what happened to him in Iowa and how he was sabotaged by certain others in the "party", I don't know how he can say that.)

11. That's not accurate. Its a nice thought, but there are Dems like Chuck
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 12:33 AM by shance
Schumer who need to rein their overzealous urges to appoint candidates who have a tendency to be Republicans in Democrats clothing. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania is one such example. There is another candidate who is the more "Democrat" of the two Dems running, Chuck Pennacchio and he is largely if not totally being ignored by the Democratic "establishment". This is not right and very damaging, not to mention hypocrital towards the Democratic process itself.

We all need to be aware and hold sacred the "primary" in every single election and we should be encouraging one and all to run in the primaries, because that is what they are for. To let all the candidates run.

17. I used to live in PA, and there's another reason to promote Casey.
The Casey name is well known and well liked across the State. You can't discount that! Samtorum is not going to go down easily, and we really do need every option available. Sorry to say, but I never heard of Chuck Pennacchio, and (mean as this might sound) it took me a while to figure out how to even pronounce his name.

I detest that Schumer is trying to stop Hackett in Ohio, but I gotta agree with him on Casey.

32. I think the issue is to go with Casey, IF HE WINS the primary.
The primary is a Democratic process that enables and should invite everyone to run. That is the reason for the primary. It is not wise for individuals in power to appoint or cherry pick, or ignore others in the running. That is the very reason we have a primary. Hackett is a perfect example.

I would ask you, you mention that don't mind Schumer elbowing others who might represent the Democratic party and its constituents better in Pennsylvania, but you're upset about Hackett? With all due respect, and it is due Nap*, do you see the problem and/or double standard there? It's not our place or anyone's, other than the people of Pennsylvania to pick the candidate for the general election.

We need to respect the Democratic process and respect the sanctity of a primary or we might as well hang up the Democratic process.

Its not as if Schumer cannot support Casey if he wins the PRIMARY,, but to discourage and tell others not to run is not good for any election.

There's no harm done, on the contrary, its only a positive when we have many candidates running in a primary, because that is what it is FOR, however there is potentially great damage that happens when officials direct or 'manipulate' the outcome of a primary by trying to eliminate a healthy competitive primary. I think we have bought into the fear when we rationalize that it doesn't matter how officials influence a primary. It matters a great deal.

Casey may be a well known name, but that is it from what I hear. I don't live in Penn, but I know people that do and that have and they feel that Casey is only a less hostile version of Santorum. He will vote very much like Santorum and is adamently pro-life. He from all that I can see, supports issues, including the War in Iraq, that Republicans will be very happy with.

To discourage the importance of a primary and the people of Pennsylvania to run, is in my opinion, allowing those in power to appoint our candidates.

Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 12:28 AM by fujiyama
Repukes have been doing that effectively for a while now.

Dean hit hard and showed why the repuke party's scandals are screwing over all of us.

And I loved the part about the salami. That was hilarious.

21. I don't own a t.v.
I find it mostly a time waster ('nother topic) .. but everyone knows I admire Howard Dean. So, I had just read a headline on DU that he was to appear on Letterman tonight. Then my neighbor came over and said, you'll want to watch this. And I did go over to watch the segment. It was great.

What they were alluding to was his appearance on another show (I have to claim ignorance..don't remember and didn't see it) where he equated the Miers nomination with "hide the salami". Now. If you don't understand that metaphore, cast your mind to . ahem . a sexual scene.

I miss Dean's old website. I saved and watched his speeches and appearances more than once.

If I didn't get the context correct, after all I was LMAO, someone else please step up and clarify.

Of that part. It was funny. And to squeeze a slam at Janet Pirro in the explanation was just hilarious.
