Iraq has descended into anarchy, says Fisk
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/article319160.ece

Most of Iraq is in a state of anarchy, with insurgents controlling parts of Baghdad just half a mile from the so-called Green Zone, an Independent debate was told last night.

Robert Fisk, Middle East correspondent for The Independent, whose new book The Great War for Civilisation: the Conquest of the Middle East has just been published by 4th Estate, painted a picture of deepening chaos and misery in Iraq more than two years after Saddam Hussein was toppled.

He said that the "constant, intensive involvement" in the Middle East by the West was a recurring pattern over centuries and was the reason why "so many Muslims in the Middle East hate us". He added: " We can close doors on history. They can't."

Fisk doubted the sincerity of Western leaders' commitment to bringing democracy to Iraq and said a lasting settlement in the country was impossible while foreign troops remained. "In the Middle East, they would like some of our democracy, they would like a couple of boxes off the supermarket shelves of human rights as well. But I think they would also like freedom from us."

2. Indeed
What else to be expected. Hecate.

And still the apologists state that US troops should remain with little mention of what the "mission's" intent is and has always been.

It's amazing to hear the folks in all the think tanks give their version of what's happening.

7. Close doors on history?
Last time I checked, WE were the invaders this time! Forced democracy is bullshit and won't work. I wonder if we will be last seen in Iraq climbing aboard helicopters to get the fuck out of there. We should have stayed in Afghanistan and caught fucknuts OBL. History my ass!

10. I wonder why if bin Laden who was supposedly smart enough to engineer...
...9/11/01 would have been stupid enough to still be in Afghanistan on 9/12/01? I think it would be unlikely he would hang around there. I think we are chasing shadows in Afghanistan. We have been right from the start.

11. He beat the Soviets out of Afghanistan with our help.
I suspect he planned on doing the same to us. I don't think he saw us attacking Iraq so quickly and shifting soldiers out of Afghanistan.

12. He was only able to beat the Soviets with help from the USA though
This guy doesn't sound like the type who underestimates his enemy. He was trained by the best. Us. He had no superpower to help him this time. He knew it would be best to retire back home with his family in Saudi Arabia and live well. Thats my guess.
