Want to get to know Bev, Paranoid Pat, David Allen, RedEagle, GB&C
and other activists?

We are doing a membership drive for Black Box Activists. Email bev@blackboxvoting.com.

Give me until the weekend; I'll send you an intro package. You can invest a lot or a little time; you can select your favorite activists and I'll connect with them to route your willingness to volunteer over to them. Or, build your own swarm; you can do the things you LIKE to do, based on your strengths and interests.

Our organization needs people from all walks of life:

- Creative people
- Organizers
- Minority rights activists
- Researchers
- Writers
- People who like legislative issues
- People who can do data entry, word processing or editing
- People who like to talk on the phone
- People who like to hang out on Internet forums
- Statisticians
- Computer techs
- People who understand remote communications
- Educators
- Public speakers
- Web bloggers and web site owners
- Pastors, ministers, rabbis and reverends
- People who have "ins" with printing firms
- Fund raisers
- People who want to volunteer at the polls (with an activist list of what to look for)
- Lawyers and legal researchers

In short: YOU. As little or as much time as your passion allows. You do not need to live in the U.S.A. -- this is an international issue.

Do you have children? Grandchildren? Nieces and nephews? What kind of a world do you want them to inherit? Protect their future by protecting their ownership in their country.

Sign up by sending email to bev@blackboxvoting.com and, while you're at it, give me the screen name you'll want to use. I will post a list of screen names of the Black Box Voting Activists by Monday (you can also opt to keep your involvement strictly confidential).

Bev Harris

If you've sent me an e-mail, reply to this post and let us know!

24. This is excellent.
One of the things to start looking at: What exactly is the role of the election judge, and to what extent are the voting vendor's techs quietly assuming those roles instead?

For example, I was under the impression that if there is a discrepancy in the votes, the election judge presides. Yes, as we know, instead they often call in a "support tech" who, in effect, tells them the results of the election.

I'd love to have you keep your eye out for what should be the election judge role and what unseen roles the techs actually play, and report them.

Great job, Alfredo!

40. Not much done
by judges. We open the machine, set it up, test drive it, zero it out, then make sure it is not tampered with. At the end of the day we take the data cards to the county clerk. It should be a boring day, not many people vote in our yuppie neighborhood.

It's going to be tough to go 12 hours without talking politics, but I will manage.

16. Great Idea Bev!
Now if we can get just 1 person from each county in the US, we can get quite a network in place before the 2004 elections, but if we can get 1 person per voting precinct in place....we might not guarentee we'll win the next election but we will be sure it's fair!

On a side note, there's an interesting story on Slashdot about a case the DOJ has brought against someone who sent out a LOT of e-mail from spoofed addresses. (Would you believe more than 160,000 bounced emails!) He's facing maximum penalties of 471 years in federal prison and $117 million in fines. Anyone thinking of spoofing BBV to get it shut down again might want to read this first. :)

21. I'm the chair of my ward ...
I'll be recruiting and managing poll watchers inside each of 9 precincts/polling places again. At each polling place, there's at least one watcher all day, from opening through counting. I can make sure that my poll watchers are all prepped on what to watch for ... particularly the openers and closers.

I can probably round up a few other ward chairs to do the same with their precincts.

29. Are you kidding? How do you think the civil rights movement took off?
The churches are one of the most productive citizen activism grounds -- they are not appropriate for pushing a Republican, Democrat or other party agenda, but for civil rights issues (and voting is a civil rights issue) the churches are a great ally.

Especially the black churches -- it's an everyday thing for us to hear the pastor exhorting the congregation to take action on a civil rights or public interest issue. Many parishes in the Catholic Church are very active. This is an issue that is relevant to all denominations and all religions, and the churches have traditionally been (and can be again) a powerful organizing unit.

I can also tell you that I've done many a town meeting hosted by local churches, and that doesn't happen without getting support first. The leaders of the church are the ones who know the network to use.

Bev

33. Freedome of Religion
Whether you believe or not, what you believe, how you choose to worship, all of these are at risk.

If the current crowd keeps going, you will have to answer to John Ashcroft's version of faith.

I know many who are VERY concerned about this.

Religious intervention in government? NO

Keeping freedom of faith an option? YES!

Let's make sure they get counted correctly in 2004.

I would be happy to help (time permitting) in Mathematical/Statistical polling/voting trend analysis, to volunteer at the polls..

Thanks to you, DemoActivist, Eloriel, et al, we have come a long way since I posted the "Encyclopedia of Computer Voting Fraud". We kicked that one for weeks, and it would still be up there today if the mods let us.

And the "Senate 2002 Election Fraud Probability Analysis". Who dares calls us conspiracy nuts now, after all that we now know about BBV, thanks to you?

TIA

98. The primer is the first part of the BuzzFlash Interview
And once we've got the activism forum in place, we'll have a lot of the tools there for you. First, we want to follow Scottxyz's concept of having a "schema" in place -- some of us that have been working this for awhile need to put our heads together on how to make the new BBV activism forum do the most work possible.

I'll probably post a thread here on that soon.

We need various "hives" revolving around some of the stronger personalities, which need separate mirrors in case they take us out.

We need the Take Back the Vote Tool Kit, from Paranoid Pat, with a section containing template materials in various formats.

Obviously the private forums for the out-of-the-public eye workshops.

The organization of the meeting rooms and resources is of paramount importance. Be thinking of lists of the tools needed for the Tool Kit rooms.

I received correspondence that indicates Diebold hasn't certified its machines in Colorado since 1997 or some such thing -- needs to be verified. It is used in El Paso County (Colorado Springs) and a few other places. Someone needs to ask those pesky certification questions, like "which versions, exactly, are we using?"

Want to discuss what we can do in Oregon.

All mail voting makes us different.

The whole state has converted from punch card to optical scan except my county. I have heard my county will be on optical scan by Nov2004. (Lane County, near Eugene).

I am a precinct captain, busy now recruiting more precinct people in South Lane County.

112. Great! We need an activist 'hive' in every state......
.....if we're going to take back our government by swarm!
Perhaps we can convince Eloriel to hold a special class to teach those who are willing to take the lead on effective ways to organize a local 'hive' like the killer BBV group she's started in Georgia! ;-)

For those who've missed it, our own Eloriel has started a BBV group to attack the problems that have plagued Georgia since the 2000 elections.
They have been most effective in letting their Secretary of State and other State officials feel the sting of dissenting public opinion. :)

You can sign up to start a free activist email discussion group for your state on Topica just like the Georgia Black Box Voters!

If we can get organized in every state at the local level, BlackBoxVoting.org can act as a central clearing house supplying vital ammunition and targeting information for coordinated, focused 'swarms' of activists to get our shared message out.
Take the lead in your state and start a discussion group today! Invite everyone and anyone who wants to help to join in the fun! Then contact bev@blackboxvoting.com and get your swarm listed! Together we CAN make a difference!

That's one thing we got a lot of input for on BBVreport.org in the California election.

Definitely one of the first, highest priority items. Is your election Tuesday?

And by the way, welcome aboard!

(Since your election is coming up so soon, it would be a good idea to PM Paranoid Pat and ask for a list of things to watch for -- he has some ideas on this already.)

136. Canada eh?
Hmmm, I've been concentrating on the laws in the US so it will take a couple of hours to come up to speed on what your laws require. I will look into it and search you out either here or at the Black Box site.

In general, keep an eye on the machines themselves. Look for any wires that are not an obvious power cord, more like a telephone wire or 'cat 5' network connection hooked up while you're voting. The more time the machines are connected to an external connection, the more time to manipulate the contents of the memory. Can you narrow down the area of Canada you live in? It will help me to focus on the particular laws for your province. :)

133. More support from California, now gov'ed by a condom stuffed with walnuts.
According to Molly Ivins, that is. Sign me up. My work is free-lance sporadic and my principle energies will go towards fomenting a revival of the good ole US Constitution. One person/one vote counted!!
