Complaints of media bias.
This article is from the Hill: http://www.hillnews.com/news/071503/democrats.aspx

The Democrats are, of course, correct in their analysis. But let me show you just one mistake (and many make it over and over):

"These lawmakers complain that the press holds President Bush to a much lower standard of accountability than it did President Clinton. Bush’s predecessor weathered such media firestorms as Whitewater, Travelgate, and Monica Lewinsky."

1) This complaint is right on, but that doesn't matter.
2) Why keep bringing up Clinton? This simply allows the talking points to shift direction. Claims of media hypocrisy feed the junkies like us here, but it makes no mark on the public. This falls right in line with the rpeubs. talking point that all of this Niger stuff is payback.
3) Don't proclaim the Democrats are getting treated badly (which they are); simply state that Bush gets treated with kid gloves. Don't ask for scraps from the table; explain to the media that they've missed the main course (then we'll take our scraps).

1. Not kid gloves--Reagan gloves
He gets treated with the same soft touch Reagan enjoyed. Reagan and Bush, Jr. are in cahoots with the same bunch: the neocons. When you align yourself with the rightest wing in this country, you are afforded a shield. This is because, essentially, you are promising the moneyed (i.e., the Boeings, the Lockheed-Martins, the Enrons, the Solar Turbines) that they stand to profit from the administration with VERY LITTLE OVERSIGHT.

Bush Sr. was in league with the same bunch of neocons, but do you notice the difference in how he was not sacrosanct? Taxes. Taxes. Taxes. Bush Sr. could not deliver on all the payoffs. As long as Bush Jr. keeps filling the trough, he will enjoy the continued fuzzy defense until it is impossible to defend him any longer.

2. "They would be throwing a fit if Clinton did this instead of Bush*"
Yesterday I had an argument with a friend who is a Democrat and says that in every argument he has with Freeper types. I told him that they want us to keep bringing Clinton up--it is a distraction from the issues. He became furious at me for saying this. So, yes, I agree with your point.

3. Overall bias

grendelsuncle your so right. Bringing up the "the media is meaner to our guy than theirs" is easy to dismiss as partisan whining.

Like Eric Alterman is his book “What Liberal Media” the focus needs to be on media bias and complacency in general. The case then is made that Shrub gets a basically free ride (present circumstances notwithstanding) and the press were like jackals on Clinton.
