Schumer: call Dobson to testify at Miers hearings
on FTN just now.

"Winking and whispering -- 'here's what her views are' -- demeans the process"

:applause:

1. I would love to see Dobson under oath
talking about what he "is not a liberty to talk about".

3. Can a dem on Judiciary subpoena a witness?
It's a fine idea, but if it's only a power granted to repubs, he shouldn't hold his breath.

5. In these situations alway push issue & then shine light on the roadblocks
If Democratics can't subpoena, then push the Republicans to subpeona Dobson. When the chairman decides not to, then shine the light on the chairman.

If Democratics can subpoena, then subpoena his ass into the room and put the question. When he hems and haws, shine the light on him. If Dobson says "Bush hasn't released him", then shine the light on Bush.

The Constitution does not say Advice and Consent from the radical clerics but not the Senators!

6. When asked this, Schumer said
"We'll cross that bridge if we come to it. I believe we can expect him to be a witness if he is called."

4. GREAT way to make the point
that bushco gives briefings to private citizens but not to those in govt who are charged constitutionally to provide checks and balances over executive branch appointments.

7. When did we elect Dobson Ayatollah? Exactly like Iran in the 80's.
Schumer's comments suggest the question: If they can tell Dobson her views, why can't they tell U.S. Senators? Miers will likely not really give her views during hearings for her appointment to SCOTUS justice.

8. Ayatollah
That's great! We need to use this name often when referring to him and Falwell, Robertson, etc. to rub in how close to the truth it is.

9. Specter is suggesting on This Weak
that he and/or Leahy "could" call Dobson.

Significant, but still squishy.

10. Why not call Rove and Dobson as witnesses since Rove made the call...

14. Picture Rove -- indicted -- who is then subpoenaed
to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee and asked what he said to Dobson about Miers.

Oh. My. God.

12. Sounds like he's thinking along the same lines...
snip>
Specter said he would ask during the hearings whether Miers had privately given assurances to conservatives that she would overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark ruling that gave women a constitutional right to an abortion.

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson has said he is confident Miers opposes abortion, based on conversations he has had with the White House.

Specter, noting that it is a lifetime appointment, said, "If there are back room assurances and if there are back room deals ... I think that's matter that ought to be known by the Judiciary Committee and the American people."

can't he be declared in contempt of congress?
