Ok, I'm officially out of money to help the World.....
Just today's news, earthquakes in SE Asia kill thousands, a hurricane's floods in Central America wipes out entire villages....impending doom and gloom on all the other continents, including NYC ! And it looks like Avian Flu will wipe out the rest of us. I have a sore throat today too, but I doubt it has anything to do with a *surprise* bacteria found in air filters during a peace demonstration in Washington DC Sept 24-25 ?

Sorry, my World brothers and sisters, I'm still helping my country rebuild her Gulf Coast, and pay my mortgage and utility bills at the same time.

Not to mention my bum*cowboy'fu*k President is still waging war on another nation that needs my rebuilding and humanitarian aid contributions, and spending my tax dollars? AND, I sure don't feel safer?

Yet, I still wish my country's schools would benefit from tax dollars, and the Defense Department would hold bake sales to buy more bombers.

Yes, I'm going Nucking Futz, I can't help you all. I hope you forgive me. I'm just one middle class American hanging on to her simple Middle Class lifestyle, I give all my extra cash to you World brothers and sisters, because I just can. But the well has run dry here on Main Street America.

5. Good grief, :::slapping my head:::
I left out the DNC ! <snort> Last I donated to them, was when they selected Dean as Grand Poo-Bah. I tend to reward them for spine, and I've certainly gotten my money's worth :)

But as a Bleeding Heart Liberal (aka: at least I have a heart), saving the world is another tough gig.

8. I hear ya.....
I live very comfortably, I just don't cherish material things like I do human comfort, especially during disasters, natural and man-made.

While my heart aches for those humans less fortunate than me, my money goes to my countrymen first. My 's goes to the MSM

I think what triggered my OP rant was watching Fox today, and Bush is sending 'brazilans' to India/Pakistan(earthquake) and Central America (floods)disasters today.

While our people in NOLA are ...what?

13. the gulf coast appreciates yr kindness
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 07:28 PM by pitohui
we do need aid on the gulf coast, it is tough

however, our friends in central america did try to send us aid in our hour of need & they have so little

not sure how but i'm going to try to find a way to send some aid to the victims of stan

they rallied around us, let's rally around them

suggestions for good charities that will get the money to stan's victims will be much appreciated

we all have limits in our resources & time, for now my volunteering & work efforts will have to be aimed here on the coast & in new orleans, however i just feel i have to do something, if only throw a few dollars at it, for the victims of stan

we're all the same in the face of these huge storms

ea. person has a cause that speaks to their heart, & there is nothing wrong w. focus & spending most or all of yr time/financial resources on that cause, we are not gods, we have limits

7. I used to give a lot more to causes, but have now decided there
are so damn many that I can't keep up with it. Now, I'm just picking a few here and there and giving less than I'd like to. My first priority right now is the Gulf; I want to see New Orleans back on it's feet and partying like a 2-bit whore. The rest of the world will just have to wait.

14. I ran out of cash to help the world several years ago...
... it turns my stomach to see the rich (Bush) corporations get richer off the blood of the people.

Maybe we need to do as our great grand fathers did. Boston tea anyone?

15. Well I got mad today when I saw BushCo
..sending help and money to SE Asia for today's earthquake, and our homeland is still suffering in our Gulf Coast. AND, his response was faster. No offense to those poor peeps in SE Asia, but com'on George, where do your loyalties lie????

16. pakistan & india sent aid to katrina, india sent a LOT of aid
i hope you can read this link & it will help you take heart--

http://cbs2chicago.com/topstories/topstories_story_249230305.html

we all heard abt the help received from the mexican army, but look at this, the very poor country of guatemala sent doctors & medical help

pakistan & india sent doctors & medical teams, india also sent $5 million

we are all in this together

i do not know v. much about south asia, i admit it

but when you say "today i am an american," don't forget that mexico & guatemala are part of the americas too -- and they sent help to us

no one has infinite resources & do not allow yourself to be "guilt tripped" but do not get heart-sick that aid is being given elsewhere, we are part of the world now, we get, we should give
