Paul Wellstone, I never knew you.
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 04:31 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
I'm in the Southeast, You were in the Northwest.

Who could be further apart?

I'm a Democrat and so were you.

I had my head up my ass worrying about local issues and as to National, all I knew is that you were the only member of the Senate to vote my conscious regarding the Iraq war.

Paul, we hardly knew you. Paul, you are a kindred spirit.

I'm nothing more than another American redneck that wants this country to be great and be a better place for my daughter.

Paul, I have what I sometimes call the dumbest yellow Lab you've ever seen. She's 6 months old and clumsy, but as loyal as any creature I have ever seen. In the world of dogs, there are smart ones, dumb ones and dogs in all points in between. You have taken me in after your death like I have taken in this pup. I'm not the smartest or the dumbest, I'm just a worker, but I know what is right and good.

You were short, you had that damned curly hair like I do that makes it impossible to ever look cool in today's society...

But you left a legacy. Of people who love you. Of people who love what you stand for.

Paul, I don't care if you're dead. You are still alive for me and I will try to keep you alive for as long as I can.

Hang on, brother, hang on.

2. Gawd how I wish he was still here. We really need him.
Somebody, somewhere, has to take up that mantle.
I have a couple of great Wellstone stories that I will tell here later this evening if anyone wants to read 'em and the kids aren't raising too much hell.
he was a totally genuine original.
his winning campaigns were brilliant -- plus he managed to prompt his opponents to implode days before the election...

3. The Right winged extremists/neocons have killed our best leaders.
It's time to say NO MORE.

They have destroyed too much of what is great and beautiful about this country.

Thats all they seem to do is destroy good.

5. I hear you, but let's keep this thread for Paul. Not the how's or why's
but what he was and what he meant. He was one of the few great Dems in the last 20 years.

4. Your post reminds me
of the old Byrds song about JFK. "He never knew my name. Tho I never met him, I knew him just the same. He was a friend of mine."

I didn't even know that one. And I loved the Byrds and CSNY.

Strange.

8. One of the greatest, I still miss him
You can't help but wonder what he would be doing right now if he was still here, we may have even stopped this illegal war before it started. Rest in Peace.

9. Goddamnit, Paul. Watching a video about you, I have tears streamiong down
my face and I only have to hope I can help your dream live on.

The repug reaction to the speakers at your service tried to stop us. Media tried to kill us. But we live and we will try.

We will endeavor to keep your (and mine) dreams alive.

Peace, Paul. Peace.

10. Thank you for reminding me to think of Paul today
I can't say I knew him, but I met him. I was on a panel with him before he was Senator. Years later he remembered me. He was an amazing, passionate man. He was committed to doing right, more than getting elected. He had courage. He admitted when he made a mistake.

I miss him so much.

11. God Love 'ya kid.
I can only wish that I held his hand for a moment.

Did he pass anything on to you through the touch?

If not, I understand, If so, you need to get to work.

Peace and prosperity, my freind.

12. I don't know if he passed anything on, but his spirit
is a regular reminder of what we need to do. Tomorrow I'm going to the Patty Wetterling for MN Senate formal announcement. I think she'd be a fitting senator for Paul Wellstone's State.

By the way, have you gone to CAmp Wellstone.

http://www.wellstoneaction.com/

This was founded by Paul Wellstone's sons. I've heard amazing things about them.
