Miers’ Church Website Altered Recently, Statements on Abortion & Homosexuality Removed

For 25 years, Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers has attended the evangelical Valley View Christian Church in Dallas, Texas. Conservatives have pointed to her church ties as evidence of her ideological underpinnings, and the Los Angeles Times noted today that Miers has left “little evidence of her own values and convictions, beyond her commitment to her church.”

As TNR notes, the Valley View website features a set of theological principles held by church leaders and parishioners. For instance, one reads, “We believe in the universal Church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all born again persons are members.”

But according to a Google cache retrieved earlier this summer (link | screenshot), the list was altered recently to remove statements on four controversial issues that may come before the Court: abortion, homosexuality, evolution/creation, and euthanasia. Here are the four:

1. Gee why would they do something like that?
I mean they're not supposed to hide their light under a bushel, right?

2. Not surprising
That church has ties to Focus on the Family and the Southern Baptist Convention.

4. Gee, aren't they comfortable w/ what they believe? Why remove it then?
Hypocrites.

I see they do believe in the separation of church and state (removing potential court issues - even though they call them "religious beliefs") - if removing their tenets means their agenda stands to gain.

If they did not have a political goal, those "beliefs" would have remained on the web site.

Gosh, surely their faith in God is stronger than their faith in Miers

lolololololololololol

5. This may coincide with her
leaving this church with other members. The former minister left and formed a new church.

7. That's a good point. The minister was there for 23 years...
...and some folks have wondered why he NOW
felt the need to break away.
Perhaps the majority of members were kinda SANE,
and he got tired of them declining his Koolaid?

6. Thinkprogress.org and TNR both made a REALLY basic mistake.
The URL for http://www.valleyviewcc.net belongs to a Valley View Christian Church in COLORADO.

It's right there in the header.

http://www.valleyviewcc.net/whatwebelieve/whatwebelieve.html

This is really stupid. :eyes:
