Poll question: Blunder or Rovian
Was *'s nomination of Miers a political blunder or a Rovian trick?

I am split on the issue and hope all of you can help me make up my mind.

Please give a reason for how you vote.

1. Blunder. Bush protofascist image as Strong Leader hurt, maybe irreparably
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 07:28 AM by Inland
the fact that Bush is seen resorting to a stealth candidate shows that he isn't the Strong Leader the protofascist movement in America wants. The fact he has to work at convincing his conservative base puts a stake in it.

Bush has so much invested in the Strong Leader bit (the inevitability of his victory, the marginal nature of his opposition, his synchonization with the vast majority and representation of The Nation, his personal qualities of determination and Resolve) that a sneaky bit of sleight of hand weakens him, whether he eventually wins or not.

the protofascist Strong Leader isn't a man who gets nominations through the legislature through lobbying and logrolling. That's the senate majority leader. the Strong Leader is the man who rolls over the legislature.

Bush losing his protofascist base.

2. Both
I think it was a Rovian trick that hasn't gone the way they hoped. I think Rove was counting on a little discontent at the Miers nomination, but I don't think he counted on the breadth of opposition to her on the right - it's not enough to sink her, but it is a pretty big pool of discontent.

4. Do you think that Bush is a real hard core Pro Lifer, or is
he just talking the talk to deceive his base?

7. I think he is a pro-LIfer but probably not as fanatical as his base about
it.

Not sure of the context of this question however.

9. just a question. I know he is a pro lifer, but does he want to
overturn Roe V. Wade, i guess that is what i was trying to ask.

10. That's hard to say - but probably.
On the other hand I think the Miers nomination has more to do with Guantenamo and the Patriot Act than Roe V. Wade.

6. Good point...
... I think her assertion that "Bush is the most brilliant man I know" just got her a SC nomination.

5. Blunder.
I think this is the result of Rove's de facto retirement, like the nonexistent Katrina response.

Bush can't do anything right since Rove got kidney stones.

8. Neither...
Bush hired a crony for the job....

The conservatives are disappointed that Bush* didn't nominate a total wingnut that would caused the Democrats to filibuster... Then Big Dick Cheney would have come down to the Senate and exercised the nuclear option to end the filibuster and put us liberals in our place....

This would have had the effect of "blowing up" the Senate and assuring nothing gets done till the next election for the Democrats would have retaliated by engaging in all kinds of procedural motions to tie up the place...

They are disappointed because Bush* passed up an opportunity to bring on the Apocalypse..
