Oil will kill us all
oil is our god. we cannot live without petroleum products. gasoline, vaseline, 3 in 1, pennzoil, light sweet crude, we breath it into our lungs with every breath, and latex particulates from the millions of car tires rolling over asphalt. oil decides our foreign policies, we go to wars for oil. we invade nations and take it now.
we obsess about how much per gallon, per barrel, per million barrels.
we worship it, and ship it all over the planet. it covers the globe, infiltrating the atmosphere. it heats up the earth and eats away at us from inside and out. it sucks us into trouble, like a tarpit, we must dig it up from the earth. we must amass it, and reserve it, and control it's distribution. we must sacrifice our children to it, like moloch in the old testament, the fiery, insatiable moloch, black as death, demanding more. oil be praised. oil is worth more than blood. oil moves america. oil rules the world. oil chokes us and mocks us and keeps us at each other's throats. oil turns our elected officials into whores and mass murderers. thick, poisonous, seeping, creeping up out of the distant past, like a jurassic nightmare ghost.
oil, spilled onto beaches and birds, oil, like a blob in a cheap sci fi movie. all consuming, acidic, penetrating into our souls and blackening our hearts. oil to lubricate and soothe our conflicted morality, to cover the horror with a protective coating. black oil, to hide what america is supposed to be about. we are sinking into a quagmire of sticky, stinking oil. in oil we trust. one nation, under oil. thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4. even better, CO2 release
When all the trapped gas is released into the air the only cure will be to rebind it(plants are not enough). One wild plan is to extract and store it under the oceans heat sink with Lord knows what effect. The oil won't be "gone". It will have sublimed into a permanent global climate problem.

Kind of reminds you of MacDonalds and the never ending collateral damage of their junk food chain. In fact the poisoner corporations have a lot in common. They provide nothing necessary, destroy vital resources, attack government in order to fight off the reaction of public interest and preserve their harmful products.

Same with tobacco. The disgusting thing about think tanks and policy formulation groupos like ALEC(recycled old repug planners) is that legis;lation is lying junk too with nothing positive, nothing but lies, destruction of public interest for the sake of dying rogue power grubbers.

The counterpoint though is the worst. That decent intelligent people leave such a wide, naive, lazy opening for this outrageous coup against humanity.

5. The way the public subsidizes energy corporations' profits is
appalling.

How does the Republicans love profits for energy companies? Let me count the ways:

1) Bush allowed Enron et al rob California blind, to the tune of, what, 30 billion?

2) Fed taxpayers are paying 3 billion a month for Iraq war so US can destabilize the middle east and guarantee (a) that any profits made from oil in Iraq go to private companies, and (b) so that the region isn't so stable that they are able to form competitive indigenous oil companies NOT run by American and other western corporations.

Add to the list...

You know, if the US taxpayers didn't pay so much money as both consumers and taxpayers to guarantee that these energy companies don't have to actually compete economically with other industries and non-American companies, we'd probably have more (and cleaner, cheaper) alternatives for America's energy needs.

6. We could and should reduce our oil dependence
We did it in the 70s by going to smaller cars and lower speed limits (which also saved thousands of lives a year) and we could do it now. Instead we start wars that kill hundreds of americans and thousands of arabs and cost billions of dollars.
