I believe *'s "born again" thing is a complete farce, a brilliant story concocted by Rove to garner the Christian vote. Bush doesn't give a damn about God or the Christian right. It's all a ruse to get the Christians, the very group who would ordinarily oppose any move towards a fascist military-run police state dictatorship, on his side. And as you can see it's working - they would follow the man off a cliff if he told them it was good for them.
Now with Miers, it's the same damn thing all over again. * knew he had to please the Christian right by placing in there a person who would show at least a modicum of conservatism. This woman has no experience as a judge and no record to speak of. She is a * loyalist and from what I understand has defended large corporations. The very fact that she is so loyal to * should put up an immediate red flag to all of us.
When the Miers selection was announced on Monday, conservatives were in an uproar. She had no conservative record to speak of and *'s promise to them seemed to have been broken. Then suddenly today, two days later, we find out Miers is a born-again Christian? Is this coincidence? Or another Rovian plan to deceive conservatives and the Christian Right into thinking she really IS conservative?
I think it's a scam. Just like *, I think they needed to create a false "cult of personality" in order to garner the support to get Miers this seat on the Supreme Court. Once conservatives, especially the Christian Right, hear this, they'll be all for her nomination. It's happening just like the way * got into office.
God is not pleased with His name being used for their own personal political gain.
