Kucinich Coming Up Next on C-SPAN Washington Journal
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 07:07 AM by DemBones DemBones

Edited my thread header instead of starting a new thread. Old header said C-SPAN Washington Journal, Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA), New Meme?

An earlier pro-Bush* caller alleged that Bush* NEVER said Iraq was an "imminent" threat but that he said instead that it was a "gathering" threat.

Then Toomey came on as a guest and was hit hard by a caller from North Carolina, a Viet Nam vet who opposes the war, opposes Bush*, and talked about Bush* lying to us. Toomey came back with a speech defending Bush* and talking about the "gathering" threat that Saddam presented.

Is this a new GOP meme? That Bush* never said we were in danger from Saddam, only that it was a "gathering" threat?

Toomey wants to decrease aid to other countries to make up for the "higher priority" expense of rebuilding Iraq. Of course he just generally wants to cut spending period. He wants to cut agricultural subsidies and -- of course! --NEA and NEH.

Callers are angry, and the Dems are the angriest, though Republicans are calling in to talk about people pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and Clinton's being responsible for everything that goes wrong in the Bush* administration.

1. THAT'S A COCK AND BULL STORY
That's the biggest piece of bull shit that I've ever heard. "Bush didn't say that it was an iminent threat"...that's BS. Condi Rice used the Mushroom Cloud scenario. And on top of that, Iraq didn't even have the infrastructure or capital to build WMD. Bush said that Iraq had tons of weapons...blah blah blah.

3. Yep, and Rummy said he knew where the WMD were. Now we've

got David Kay trying to talk about weapons programs and a vial of Botulinum (which I read had been in the scientist's fridge since 1993 or something like that.)

2. Dennis is doing well, giving intelligent, articulate responses to

questions.

He says this is exactly the time that we should be working on a move from nonrenewable energy sources, like Iraqi oil, to renewable energy sources.

A caller (on the "Other" line) attempting to take Dennis to task for saying he is the only candidate who actually voted against the war and the Patriot Act. She thinks he said he was the only one who was against the war and the Patriot Act and she wants to remind him that the two African-American candidates oppose the war.

Next caller (on the "Support Kucinich" line)has a son in Iraq, wants to know what you (Congress) are going to do about it, says she doesn't think they understand how things are for parents of military personnel.

Now a Republican calls on the "Support Bush" line) and mispronounces Kucinich, says he disagrees with everything he said about Iraq, asks, "You got anything to say about that?"

Dennis is unperturbed by all this, just explains his position as if no one were hassling him at all.

Pedro just wished Dennis a Happy Birthday! 57 today.

Finally, a caller says she has admired him since the first time she heard him, applauds what he just said about NAFTA. (Yeah, I can't type fast enought to cover everything!) Now he's talking about waste at the Pentagon. A trillion dollar discrepancy in their accounts.

4. DK was fantastic
OK, it was the same thing he's been saying all along, but it was still good to hear. In fact, it's reassuring to hear a candidate who doesn't flip-flop every time the wind blows a new direction. I'm glad I have a clear cut choice as viable as Dennis Kucinich. I just hope America can wake up in time to see what I see. Hopefully, the governator will step on his dick badly enough that folks will see what the GOP represents.
