The current regime in the United States WILL ship off an innocent man who they think is a terrorist from the US to a foreign country to torture them. And not even to the country of his passport. Maher Arar was innocent.

They even kidnap people in other countries to smuggle them out for torture.

But... they won't extradite a man who is a known terrorist to a foreign country because they say he will be tortured. And to the country of his passport. That would be Luis Posada Carriles known as the "Osama bin Laden of Latin America".

Go figure.

2. Just a technical quibble
Your links are bad. They have "http:\\" in them twice. It's a quirk of the DU link code -- you can't write a link with the protocol prefix in it.

6. Ah, yes! Superb!
I wish I could say the same thing about the Bush junta, but that's going to take a little more than fixing a link. You can't fix human corruption through code, unfortunately.

3. A documentary on this from March
In this programme Andrew Gilligan* examines the CIA’s practice of abducting terrorist suspects and transferring them to states such as Egypt and Syria, where torture is routine. The programme also exposes the British government’s refusal to condemn the use of torture by the government of Uzbekistan, for the sake of the ‘evidence’ it produces: 'selling our souls for dross', in the words of the former British ambassador.
