"Ambassadors" promoting peace

BY JOSEPH STASZEWSKI
NEWSDAY STAFF WRITER

September 29, 2005

Carolyn Gomez wants to be an ambassador. The Long Beach High School senior had that chance yesterday morning at the Empower Peace videoconference in her school's auditorium.

" go to the UN," said Gomez, who speaks French, Italian and Spanish. " just something that is so incredible to be able to participate in and unite so many people."

Gomez and sophomore Miguel Dias read the school's pledge for peace, as students from four high schools in Boston, two in Cairo, and one in Islamabad, Pakistan, watched on video screens. They were just two of 10 Long Beach High School student "ambassadors" for the event.
