Hurricane preparations, stabilizing gas prices help

Thursday, September 29, 2005; Posted: 5:40 p.m. EDT (21:40 GMT)

President Bush's approval rating improved after his highly visible hurricane preparations last week. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush's standing with the public improved over the previous week as he made a highly visible effort to manage the consequences of the second major hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast in a month, a new poll out Thursday found.

Bush's job approval rating in the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll climbed to 45 percent, and 71 percent said they approved of his handling of Hurricane Rita, which struck land Saturday near the Texas-Louisiana border.

By comparison, only 40 percent said they approved of his handling of Hurricane Katrina, which hit near the Louisiana-Mississippi line August 29.

The poll surveyed 1,007 adults between Monday and Wednesday, and had a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

2. Just wait
It will be short lived after the DeLay debacle. Then.... Frist's turn to be photographed and fingerprinted is just around the corner.

Let's see the polls then.

:kick: in '06 and '08

3. Consider the source...
Gallup? Really?

I don't believe a word of it, and I think that democrats should seriously consider teaming up with former repubs and independants to create a non bias polling system.

5. B U L L S H I T ! ! !
They probably asked them if Bush had fucked up as badly with Rita as he did with Katrina, so naturally they'd go up a little...

6. No poll is 100% accurate, UNLESS
EVERY American is asked the same questions.

Don't let it get to ya.

10. The statistical claim of 5% is pure speculation, 1000 = miniscule sampling
You're right! Just look at exit polling, people even resort to lying to polsters, who may be anybody calling us.
There are many closet * haters that wouldn't say sh** if they had a mouth full of it, for job/image/church/family reasons. good point.

7. Gas Pump conversations here ALWAYS involve fear & loathing the *
So Gallup found 800 or 1200 to query, and of course the error margin is ALWAYS 3% to 5%. Not Believable

9. That's total bullcrap.
Everything screams against it. Unless they asked everyone polled if they are a Republican as a screener.
