EVERYONE on this board should look up "Pyrrhic Victory."
But since most of you won't, I did it for you:

http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2003/07/16.html

Word of the Day for Wednesday July 16, 2003

Pyrrhic victory \PIR-ik\, noun:
A victory achieved at great or excessive cost; a ruinous victory.

Technically it was a victory for the British, who attacked the patriot fortifications -- but a Pyrrhic victory if ever there was: out of 2,200 British soldiers 1,034 were killed or wounded, including one in nine of all the officers the British lost in the whole war.
--Geoffrey Wheatcroft, "A Revolutionary Itinerary," The Atlantic, April 2001

Ferguson argued that British involvement in World War I was unnecessary, far too costly in lives and money for any advantage gained, and a Pyrrhic victory that in many ways contributed to the end of the Empire.
--David Harsanyi, "The Old Order," National Review, May 5, 2003

In short, the Hong Kong government might have won this particular battle against the speculators, just as the Malaysians reckon they have done. But with both administrations' credibility hugely damaged as a result, these are Pyrrhic victories that they may come to rue.
--"Market intervention: Fashionable," The Economist, September 5, 1998

A Pyrrhic victory is so called after the Greek king Pyrrhus, who, after suffering heavy losses in defeating the Romans in 279 B.C., said to those sent to congratulate him, "Another such victory over the Romans and we are undone."

Dictionary.com Entry and Pronunciation for Pyrrhic victory

In short, THAT is what is in store if the "RIGHTISTS" are not STOPPED, NOW, ANYWAY THAT WE CAN. The "High Road" will leave us with neither moral superiority OR victory, just the ashes of our economy, our ecology, and our country.

1. Or as someone on the internet once said: nobody ever wins a war,
one side just loses less than the other.

4. But I prefer Rosie Perez's version in "White Men Can't Jump."
Sometimes when you win, you really lose; sometimes when you lose, you really win; and sometimes you just break even.

2. Agreed. Winning dirty is still winning.
And we will write the history books anyway, having buried them.

It is time for actions that are outside of the realm of normal politics.

5. I agree with you a lot....
...and more with time.

And the time has past for demonstrations and singing...it's time for buying hookers and drugs and planting them in hotel rooms.

well...maybe not that far...unless it's absolutely necessary.

Why aren't us positive types ever considered realists?

13. You should look up "non sequitor."
Unless of course what you are really arguing for is "leftist" (is that the opposite of rightist?)ideological purity.

If the "rightists" are not stopped, we will not have a pyrhic victory, we will have a garden variety defeat.

14. That's not what I'm saying.
I believe they eventually will go down, but if we let it go that far, what will be left? any trees in Oregon? any water in the Midwest?

Will it be WORTH winning at that point? that's what i'm saying.

Inconceivable, huh? But they know those dirty tricks so well already, they clearly have no conscience touting hypocritical moral superiority.
