Drier may be a good choice for the GOP, because he surely can't rise any higher on his own. Too many skeletons in his closet, if you know what I mean. And if DeLay goes down, this bunch of thugs will fall on each other like chickens in the barnyard. One chicken gets bloodied, the others will gather around and peck it to death.

Same thing with the Republicans. There is a whole gaggle of power-hungry greedheads just waiting to break into the top echelon and DeLay's fall means somebody gets a shot. Sticking Drier in there plugs the hole in the dike (if you know what I mean), keeps a lid on a lot of other folks' ambitions, and keeps the seat warm just in case DeLay survives.

They're scared. Hopefully they're not thinking straight, no pun intended.

A good buddy of Tom so he'll leaving quietly if Delay is found innocent, but also not too tarnished in the image department to be the poster boy for the "New and improved Republican Leadership" the GOP will need when Delay and Frist are both found guilty and sent to jail. IMHO :)
