"We" a tactical rant
One of the biggest problems I see for 2004 is the millions and
millions of people who supported the war. They loved it, the
bombs, the tanks, everything and it polled at 80%. These people
need to be wedged out of bush's a** and the issue of misleading
is a soft wedge that will let them step back away from their own
support of the war enough to met the demands of denial and
maintain their internal dialog about their own goodness.

It is never easy for any person to leave a strongly held position
without a way to a new position, that maintains their self image
as a good and right thinking person. Of the many reasons people
supported the war the "humanitarian" position claimed the most
potential democratic voters. Some people believed in the war because
of economic interests like the price of gas for their morning commute.
Others because of general hate and a lust for revenge on the 911
evil doers. Many just love power and being part of a country with
it and all that means to their personal self worth.

For whatever reason personal support for bush's war is a major
road block to democratic victory in 2004. I have been thinking
about a coworker who I bitterly argued with about before and during
the war. In his case he supported the war to "save Iraqi" and
"give them the gift of democracy". Many people of a more or less
democratic bent supported the war from this "humanitarian" position.
It is this position that is one of the hardest to counter.

One can point out the looting of the museum but this point has been
undermined by stories of found items and the exaggeration of the
number of items first lost. Pointing out that of the 43 most
important items only 13 have been found and that of the 12000 other
items confirmed gone only 4000 or so have been found. Even with more
than 60% of the items still missing people can feel good about what
has been done to recover the returned ones. The burned library is
another story though burned papers are not going to be returned ever.

The way people can dismiss the material loss of property and
income to the people of Iraq is strange. Given our American
obsession with material goods we are very fast dismiss the
losses of others as irrelevant. The thousands of civilians
who have died and the thousands of Iraqi soldiers are peripheral
to history and have died for freedom so our national myth says.

Is the tactic that the problem with the war was that it was
marketed to the people with lies a good one? I don't think so.
The problem with the war is the war. War is bad for us. War
is good for bush. The problem with supporting the war is bush.
The problem with believing bush is going to bring human values to
the people of Iraq or the people of Africa is that he has none to
bring. The "We" is the people we are trying to flip from supporting
the bush war in general, the war in Iraq and the war against
democracy at home.

War brings power to bush.

Stop the war and you have stopped bush.

Anyone but Bush 2004

1. Stop the war and you have stopped Bush.
very good post. I never really thought about it that way, but you have made some excellent points. America is quickly becoming disenchanted with this war. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

but, but, but, Clinton has sex in the oval office.............

and you really think you're going to get their heads out of Bush's ass????????????????????????????????????????????????????

4. and you really think
I'm less concerned with people in general than
with likly democratic voters.

There are lots of people who should be against
bush and all he does based on issues like the
economy and the enviroment. But the war has them
supporting bush the culture of fear has lead
many away from their normal intrests.

The die hard bush lovers are a lost cuase for
the most part getting marching orders from
rush or fox but the lost dems can be wedged
lose.

I hope.

3. The first politician, Republican, Democrat, Green or whatever....
....who dares to stand before the American people with a copy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights and speak the ugly truth about we have become, who speaks of how we have failed ourselves, and those who fought to protect the rights we've taken for granted, who dares to honestly lead the people back to the greatness that America should stand for, will IMHO have truly beaten Bush*. And we will all be the better for it!

Lets hope that it's a Democrat! (At this point I'll settle for anyone from any party who can stir the half of our country who've given up and stopped participating!)
