Anyway, here's the question: How much influence on the '04 election will the recall REALLY have?

a breaking point for Diebold and BBV

3. It is, because...

California is an extremely important state.

A few things could happen:

1. Arnold screws California (well, we know that it's going to happen, but it depends on how much people care and the media advertises it) in which case resentment at the Repugs grows (improving Dem chances in '04.)

2. Arnold screws California, but no one cares and the special interest groups are fanatic over him; the Repubs get lauded, Dem chances hurt in '04.

3. Bustamante tries his best to save California, but fails due to Bush economy; this could help or could hurt Dem chances, depending on whether Bush or Bustamante is blamed.

This is, of course, only the tip of the iceburg.

8. California provides a good cross section of American society

The outcome of the Recall election will give a good indication of how much the American public is paying attention to political news. In other words, are they voting with their heads or their heart, their minds or their emotions.

If Arnold wins, it shows that the American public still isn't really all that interested in politics, and the 04 election will probably come down to a popularity contest. This would be great for bush, because he has the name recognition.

If McClintock wins, it shows that the country is still sliding over to the right, not quite ready to give up on the hope that republicans can give all that they promised. This would not necessarialy be good for Bush because so many real republicans are not too happy with him, so a candidate like Gephardt or Leiberman could do well in the 04 election.

If Davis remains the governor it shows that people are paying attention to the news and are starting to show more concern for the issues and are basing their vote on what they believe is the best for the people. This would be a good thing for Dean, Kucinich, Kerry or Clark. These candidates are generally considered to be "for the people" candidates.

If Bustamante wins, then I'm not sure who would benefit more from this.

In any case, all the current 04 candidates should be paying attention to California, and planning how to use what happens today to their best advantage.

4. I'm really hoping

that the Dems win this one. If so, the GOP will have lost some momentum. If Ahnold does sqeak in, I'm sure he's going to make a mess of things-and this will be good news for the Dems.

5. I have no bloody idea.

I am of course very concerned about the state of California because as you all know Sapphocrat lives there, and is my partner. Apart from that CA is a beautiful state, and I would hate to see it ruined by the repukes.

I would like to think that when peckerhead totally screws California over that no one is going to want to vote for a repuke next year. But that is an impossible dream.

After reading about that poor woman who got bashed while Mr and Mrs Peckerhead watched on I had visions of CA coming under military rule. After all shit for brains is an action hero, and probably thrives for violence.

6. An Arnold win could radicalize the Left in a big way

with Arnie in charge, this will help the Monkey. CA will become a focus now since they got rid of Davis. Dems are too divided (and your right) defeatist to win. I looking to go way North- not even going to wait -saving my money now I want to Live in a Democracy fuck this shit. Sorry, in a very bad mood - I was not even going to come to the sites (DU, Bart, SC) tonight because I knew I would get pissed off-should have listened to myself. Things seem to go better when I am Checked out of these sites. If CA goes for Arnold, boycott California.
