Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 06:46 PM by G_j
A DC Park police spokesman stated on MSNBC that 370 (did I hear that right?) were arrested at the WH today. The post at DC IMC (indy media) below tells of 40 being arrested at the Pentagon this morning. That would make aprox. 400 arrests for non-violent civil disobedience today. Any coverage on the network news?

probably the best way to get the truth will be to listen or watch Democracy Now! tomorrow.

"Pentagon Metro closed due to a police situation." 25 Activists arrested at the Pentagon this morning in a direct action. More
"Forty of us were arrested this morning for shutting down two entrances to the Pentagon. This was the largest arrest at the Pentagon since the beginning of the 'War on Terrorism.'" Frida Berrigan, War Resisters League

12. Yep, MeaganMonkey, who posts here was one of them
She had the greatest shirt, "Our Country is run by Shitheads."

From what I've heard, she had a blast getting arrested and is a OK.

Some mention here thanks to John Nichols . . .

After about ten minutes, Sheehan joined a sit-in along the fence outside the White House. As the group chanted "Stop the War!" and "The whole world is watching!" she was the first arrested by US Park Police. Like the others who were taken into custody, she was charged with demonstrating without a permit, a misdemeanor that carries a $50 fine. (In addition to the roughly 200 people who joined the sit-in near the White House, another forty-one--including a number of members of the group Veterans for Peace--were arrested earlier in the day near the Pentagon.)

13. I wasn't aware that everyone knew
because I haven't really seen it mentioned.

I feel that it is especially important that ppl know about the courage of these individuals. IMO, acknowledging their courage and sacrifice is more significant than the bickering and complaining which is popular here.

18. The 370 arrested may have included some
of the 40 Pentagon arrests. I was at the rally yesterday until about 12:15 (when I had to leave to catch a plane home). I heard then that some of the Pentagon arrestees had already been released and at least some were planning on getting arrested again. Beyond that, I don't know.
