. . .the rally yesterday, but a ton of DUers also have a problem with A.N.S.W.E.R's involvement. I wanted to be at that rally,I was stuck here in Chicago, but given the controversial nature of anti-war rallies and the unpredictable behavior of the speakers, including A.N.S.W.E.R. speakers I cannot blame any elected officials for not showing. I salute those who do, but will not judge those who don't.

2. Even if the UN had organized the event, most of our "leaders" would
have stayed away. Just in case they eventually do find WMDs in Iraq, I guess.

8. Even if every Democrat leader attended the event...
...I bet some people would attack them anyways.

11. And the other side would say it was "politicized"
If it looks like what it is -- a grass roots movement spearheaded by Cindy and the other parents -- it's much truer to the heart of the nation, imho.

12. Those that did attend deserve praise, but those who didn't. . .
. . .should be given a break.

13. You got it, melody.
It's just the people speaking.

Politicians get to yak on a podium each and every day.

It was our turn.

3. I don't have a strong opinion about
ANSWER because I don't know enough about them. But what do you say about all the other times when Dems do not show up? Do not speak out?

We need to run out of excuses for these people....and get to work at being the leadership!

Power to the PEOPLE!

4. I agree with you
...and I don't blame those who didn't wish to attend. I can't believe some DU'ers are having a hard time understanding why some people would not be comfortable in that environment.

5. That's kinda the point I was making on another thread.
If *I* were an elected official, I wouldn't want for someone to get a picture of me next to a "Free Mumia" jackhole. No way.

(off topic: check the lounge. we're going to have another meetup in Chicago soon.)

9. I've been to a number of anti-war rallies and I as a private citizen. . .
. . .I don't agree with 60% of the rhetoric coming from the speaker and if I were an elected official I would be very uncomfortable in that environment.

7. I agree
It would have given political opponents ammunition to use against them.

10. I'm for a free Palestine, but I'm not sure if its a good idea for. . .
. . .Barack Obama to be standing onstage as the "Free, free Palestine!" chat starts, regardless of his position on the issue

14. Dem leaders know that if we don't leave some semblance of governance
in Iraq - we will all be back there fighting WWIII in a few years.

They are being prudent. Good that they didn't show up.
