Dear Congressman XXX:
Yesterday, Congressmen Tom Lantos (D-CA), Christopher Shays (R-CT), and
Barney Frank (D-MA) introduced legislation to ensure that in any future
disaster, federal officials will not separate people from their
household pets and service animals such as seeing-eye dogs The Pets
Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act requires local and
state emergency preparedness authorities to include in their evacuation
plans how they will accommodate household pets or service animals in
case of a disaster. Local and state authorities must submit these plans
in order to qualify for grants from the Federal Emergency Management
Agency.
As a responsible pet owner and sponsor of A Petition to Protect the
Animal Victims of Hurricane Katrina
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/840979272 with over 85,000
signatures from people all over the world, I am asking you to sign on
with these legislators.
The situation that has and continues to exist in LA and MS and will
exist to a lesser extent in TX and western LA should never be allowed
to
develop.
Sincerely,
Your Name, State
