How come much isn't being made about the protest tommoroww
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 03:06 AM by lynch03
This is suppose to be one of the most massive protests yet. I expected to see more posts about it on here, or at least something on the front page. I thought I'd see people urging each other to go, and suggesting to bring as many people as possible. This is a one time event to voice our dissent, we should be making as big a mark as possible, this should be historic. I'm just surprised I haven't heard much about it on here.

1. Because
Most who can go, are on their way right now. Those that are there, are getting together, etc. Tomarrow we will be geting reports by those who can post them.

Then there is the Hurricane that is going on tonight. That might have some effect.

2. Personally, I'm distracted by 2 Hurricanes and their aftermath. Apologies
My family and Friends are mostly in LA and TX. My heart is with everyone doing the right thing in DC and everywhere else there are protests.

I was headed to Baton Rouge and New Orleans this weekend, but Rita and fate sealed those plans.

3. Another reason to hope that Rita will be merciful
Although I doubt the cameras will be in Washington tomorrow no matter how tonight's scenario plays out.

11. C-span will be covering the protest.
or so I've read.

There will be coverage.

The hurricane will take precedence, and that is as it should be.

The March in Washington is the beginning. It will not be the last of the movement started in Crawford.

pre-empted the protests.

8. It's still going on, I meant the Coverage was pre-empted by Rita.
Listen, we need to stop this war and get ourselves out of the Middle East and dependency upon fossil fuels - but there's such a thing as priorities. The possbile IMMEDIATE destruction of a large portion of our country takes precedence in attention over a demonstration - no matter how just or important the cause.

10. Um, hardly
Maybe in the aspect of the news cycle but I spent this evening with hundreds of DUers and there isn't a hotel room to be found in DC tonight and most of the people I've met have 2-6 people in their hotel rooms and I'm writing this from the lobby of the Cap Hill Suites.

I also spent a few hours tonight talking to an American displaced by Hurricane Katrina. She will be there tomorrow with the folks from the Peace Train Coalition.

And so on.

This morning, we rock and roll.

7. Breaking News, that's what.
The protest will have an impact, and it will be covered, and although it will seem a little diminished at the time, I still think it can't be ignored.

It's coming at the perfect time if you ask me.

9. Wait until tomorrow
It will be the biggest story beside the Hurricane.

Its going to be three days that will change D.C.

When people see shots of hundreds of thousands of people protesting Bush*t, it will just snowball.

13. I pray you're right.
Its unfortunate that it falls RIGHT on the day that the damage from Rita will be happening/done.

17. coverage
What American would give a rats ass about the activities of some insignifigant focus group? <sarcasm>

I was part of the Jan 2003 focus group in DC. We were right, the American Government was wrong.

Thanks to all that are in DC today.
