Has shrub ever used the term 'alcoholic' or 'recovering alcoholic' etc. to
refer to himself? As opposed to "I quit drinking, I was drinking too much"?

Curious. I seriously doubt that the shrubco myth machine would allow this.

1. I don't think he has. That would be an admission of a mistake.

4. AA
I remember from my Dad, one of the first things you need to admit when you go to AA is that you are an alcoholic; not a recovering alcoholic, not a reformed alcoholic, but an ALCOHOLIC -- for the rest of your life.

Have they changed this philosophy?

8. Actually participants work on the first step: Admit powerlessness
over alcohol. AA does not require participants to call themselves alcoholic. Members in meetings often introduce themselves followed by an admittance of being an alcoholic as a way to work that first step.
But they don't have to, its voluntary.

9. Wouldn't he first have to admit that he had a problem with alcohol?
I don't recall him ever admitting that? I swear I read that he was put into rehab for 30 days prior to running for TX Gov. I can't remember what publication I read it in.

The closest he's come is saying that alcohol was "competing with my affections", or something to that effect. So it was a conscious decision, and he was in control the whole time.

And then he simply quit drinking, without any help from anybody. (Or, depending on the audience, that he prayed and got the strength from above.)
