Water Waste Deep in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans
per local radio station. Levees are being pressured. Scattered rain and winds are picking up here (50 miles northeast of NOLA). The stow the gear routine is getting old especially when we have to share part of the garage with carpet we tore out thanks to Katrina.
Station down the road ran out of gas overnight but got a truckload in this AM. Prices holding about $2.65 per gallon.

1. I'm so sorry you all have to go through this again.
It may sound trite and repetitive, and may not give much comfort right now-

but it's from the heart-

Do whatever it takes to keep you and yours safe.

Latest from WWL-

http://www.wwltv.com/
Dozens of blocks in a New Orleans neighborhood are now under water.

The water is pouring over a patched levee, in the form of a waterfall at least 30 feet wide. A National Guardsman says, "Our worst fears came true." He says if it keeps up, the levee will breach, and he says it "will fill the area that was flooded earlier." Click for story.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FOR ORLEANS and ST. BERNARD PARISH, MAINLY THE NINTH WARD, N.O. EAST, CHALMETTE AND ARABI.

Tornado warning in effect for all of southeast Louisiana until 6 p.m.

5. Not trite at all
and thanks very much. We'll get by okay. Its just the fear of the unknown. Is there another one out there in the Atlantic forming right now? Can't help but think that since the Hurricane season lasts till the end of November. You take care of yourself and thank you for the positive thoughts.

10. If there were another one out there
in the Atlantic forming right now, do you think I'd even mention it???

You have more than enough to be concerned about right now. Don't need added worries. Take care of what you can right now, and let tomorrow take care of itself. There's only so much a person can handle.

Oh, hey - while I'm here, did ** ever show up to help you clear those downed trees? He loves that hard work, ya know - got his very own chain saw and gloves and everything. :eyes:

13. No he must have had a scheduling conflict
but about 10 of us got together and made great progress in cleaning up 4+ lots in our neighborhood. The lots are at least one acre each. The homes on the northside of our area don't have trees but we had a good turnout of folks to help clean up the wooded lots. We still have a mess but most of the big stuff is sitting on the highway waiting for FEMA financed cleanup crews to remove them. The state still has a fire ban. A little improvement each day.

20. It comes from the Heart
I support religious freedom in this country more than a truckload full of conservatives. I proudly served my country and in 2003 when my patriotism was questioned because of my opposition to sending troops to Iraq by a "christian" I morphed into a liberal whirling dervish whom people don't chat about politics with more than once. I'm a card carrying member of the ACLU and I am not shy about playing the VET card so any lunatic conservatives who want to get their nuts busted by an old salt, pack a lunch and get in line. I love my country way too much to sit back and nod politely.

6. Close
The Ninth Ward borders St Bernard Parish and is a few miles from the oil refineries in Chalmette which is east of New Orleans. And the industrial canal goes north to south from Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River and cuts right through the Ninth Ward. Bad geography for storms.

9. It looks to be something Bush* said
I am not sure but the sig line begins with Bush* then gives the quote but the President J. Edgar Hoover should have been in quotes as well so maybe not..

25. J. Edgar Hoover was the FBI Director
Herbert Hoover was the president.

It's not that difficult of a distinction.

11. The jury is still out as to whether J. Edgar Hoover was president
I've heard people present a theory that J. Edgar Hoover was the first president of the shadow government of the United States of America. I'm just saying...

This storm isn't over by a long shot. The initial hit may be minor next to the potential flooding caused by it stalling over Texas/Louisiana border.

16. I believe "waste" deep is more accurate
right now. And it can be used now and in the hours ahead regardless of how deep it gets. You eagle eyed wacky canucks, catch me every time.
